Question regarding sample rate conversion

I know that IRs are converted to 24bit/48k no matter what the original resolution and sample rate were but am not clear on the process. Does that mean that if I import a 24bit/48k IR, it will be resampled also or will it remain unchanged? The reason I'm asking is, I have been using 96k/24bit IRs and would prefer no conversion if possible. I will say, it's a shame having 96k converters when the internal processing only handles 48k samples! :)

Hi Richard,

what Torpedo product are you talking about? Live & CAB use 48KHz (well, 96 for the power amp actually), VB-101 & Studio 96KHz, WoS III 88 or 96, depending on the project frequency.

There is no resampling involved if there is no need to have one. ;)

I will say, it's a shame having 96k converters when the internal processing only handles 48k samples!

It's more complicated than that, we have different frequencies along the process to adjust the audio quality VS CPU load. The shame would be to have badly implemented SRC, and I can assure you that what we do in the DSP works extremely well. ;)

No doubt about that! I love the sound of my CAB! The reason I asked was because I did notice there was a slight difference in the sound of the Redwirez IRs I had loaded. The same IRs at 96k was a little smoother but sounded a little less detailed and the 48k IRs sounded a little grainier but more detailed, if that makes sense. I preferred the 48k. Now it could be entirely possible that it was a difference in the IRs themselves. Either way, it's a great unit and has made my life SO much easier! :)

Well, I would recommend uploading them and recording a sample with each. This way you can do a proper comparison.

I can't say there is no possible difference, but it should be very, very subtle. Unless you found a bug. ^^
