Questions about my new Rebel

I just bought a Rebel. It's my first tube amp, and so far I'm having a fun time with it.

I have been reading posts about an issue with the fx loop. I tried my GT-10 in the fx loop (to get some 'verb and delay) and didn't notice any problems. Has the mod been applied beyond a certain build date, am I just lucky, or does the GT-10 happen to have the proper levels?

I read on this site that the stock power tubes are re-labelled JJ's. Is this true? What about the preamp tubes?

My only real issue is the sensitivity of the master volume. In my music room, I'm only using a small fraction of the knob before it gets louder than I would like. I figure I'll do a mod to address this sooner than later, has anyone got any ideas other than attenuation in the fx loop? Is the master volume a linear pot? Would a log taper pot work better if this is the case?

I bought the 1x12 cab, which sounds pretty good, but has anyone tried any other speakers in it? I'm always looking for mellower sounds, has anyone tried a Cannibis Rex or Tone Tubby? Any other ideas?

Yes the power tubes are GT labeled JJ's the pre amp tubes are Sovtek 12ax7WA. The effect you are using must be fine if there is no hum. It was found to cause hum with higher end pedals.

Welcome to tube amps, bro!

Actually, the Egnaters seem to have smoother tapers for volume at lower volumes. Many, many tube amps go from a cold whisper to all out gore just by breathing on the volume knob.

Have fun w/ the Rebel!

If it's edging up too loud on you try moving the wattage knob down a tad till it drops the volume down to the exact level you are looking for.

Thanx for all the replies ...

I'm not sure what the wattage control is actually doing (I read a post somewhere that says it is messing with the bias of the inverter), but the effect is that while the signal seems to be a lot more compressed with the "Watts" control down, it doesn't seem to get much quieter at any given "Master" setting.

I got better results reducing the signal (a lot) returning from the Boss GT-10 I stuck in the Rebel effects loop for reverb and delay. I am able to use higher settings on both the "Watts" and "Master" settings on the Rebel, which opens the sound up quite a bit.

After spending a couple of days with it now, I'm pretty happy with the tones I'm getting.

The Watts is much more a feel/tone/ sag thing than a volume. I use a hot Plate with mine. This thing can get stupid loud no problem.
