I have a chance to buy a Herbert head, which will be the biggest gear purchase I've ever made. The only reason I even have a chance to purchase this amp is due to a personal injury and the subsequent workers comp settlement I'll be getting.

This is a once in a lifetime chance and I want to be totally sure about this purchase. I've done a bunch of research around the net and have been both pleased and intrigued by what I have seen and heard. But today I came across some troubling information. I decided to check out the user reviews at Harmony Central and was suprised to find many reports of reliability issues. I understand that you have to take the HC reviews with a grain of salt, but there were so many reports of failures with the Herbert. I was shocked to say the least.

So I decided to come straight to the source and get some honest first hand information. I would appreciate any info, personal experiences or even general facts concerning this supposed reliability issue(s).

Advanced thanks to Peter or anyone else who would like to jump in on this.

Nothing to fear Eric. I've owned mine for 2 years without issue. 99.9% of the issues are tube related and people don't know any better and they bitch on some review. You'd be hard pressed to find an amp that is built as well as a Diezel.

Go for it

Kurtsstuff was selling one, is that the one you are looking at? He's a great person to deal with.

Hey bro, I was going to PM you on this later. Well, actually earlier but I forgot.
I wish I was looking at one right now. I'll have to wait on this settlement though. You know me, I like to "research" for months before I make a big purchase. And this is a damn big one. I just wanted to make sure those reviews were BS. Which I figured they were.

I'm pretty much sold on the Herbert. I think it will match up great with my 5150 II. I havn't come across any used ones though. I saw Wild West had the Herbert listed about $200.00 less than other places though. $4,199.00 new I think. What do they normally go for on the used market?

I've owned my Herbert for over two years now - no issues at all. Go for it.

Thanks dude, I appreciate the feedback.

Mercedes is a good car, but like we all know cars may need to be repaired sometimes. That's why if I can't maintain a Mercedes I don't buy one.

I have a Mercedes...and contrary to common belief it's very low maintenance...much like my Herbert.

My friends who drive cheaper cars always have huge repair bills, I don't. That's why I drive Mercedes...

I have had no experience with Peter's stuff breaking down. It is built like a tank and unlike most if you do have a problem you can email Peter and he replies cheerfully. It isn't gonna get much better than that.

i have a herbert and never had issues.
a friend of mine has a VH4 for years - no issues ever.
another friend of mine has an einstein - no issues, ever.

and forget the crap on harmony central. "reviews" posted by 14year old boys with Behringer V-amp, unable to dial in a tube amp and not recognizing that these amps just show them theyr bad playing.

buy it, love it, never look back!

Keep in mind that if you buy used you may save a few hundred bucks (whcih I understand wanting to do) however, you may not truly know the history of the amp. This applies to any used purchase, car, house etc..... So a few dollars saved now may be many spent later.

Anyhow, I have a Herbert that is only a week old and it sounds great and I've had the Einstein for about 6 months which I did in fact buy used and that is great as well.

You must be forgetting that you are in Germany. ;)

I have my herbert for about 4 months the only problem i had was a led burnt out on my channel 2
i emailed peter and he sent me 10 led's for one that burt out other than that the only problem i had was a tube died on me so i just bought a new pair and rebiased it and it sounds great

Thanks guys, appreciate the info. What you've said is pretty much what I expected. No one is going to successfully market and sell a $4,000+ guitar amp if it has that many problems. And Diezel has been very successful in both that and building a great reputation.

Now all I have to do is wait for my settlement to come through. Yay.

Hi Eric,
I can't quite figure out why people write those things on Harmony central. You can rest assured that Peter will go out of his way to make sure that you're happy with your amp. He stands by his products and offers the best after sales service around. I've heard a lot of stories about him doing mods free of charge!

Dude, you are preaching to the choir. I know how bad they are. Hell, I wrote some of them.

I was totally suprised that there were so many negative comments. Usually everyone only talks about how an amp or guitar is a perfect 10. I guess because they just dropped a load on a new piece of gear, don't like it and are too embarresed to admit it. So they say it's perfect and then spam it off.

I had never heard anything bad about a Diezel product and then all of a sudden I find a bunch of negative reviews. Seemed sorta strange to me.

Eric

So many negative reviews?

When my maths are correct, an average of 9.0 from 36 reviews means that just (very) few had problems which were more or less serious.
And after reading those three negative reviews currently on page 1 all I can say is: it smells fishy to me.

Needless to say that my own Herbert never had a single issue. Of course this doesn't justify a generalization, but the 9.0 of HC reviews does.

The reality is:

3700 amps are out. We had issues with some
LED´s on the Herbert.

You don´t will hear when 3650 amps works flawlessly.
99% of issues are tube related, so I swapped to an other
manufacture to reduce trouble.

If there is one Guy upset, he can shout about the
internet and HC is a good example how to insult
manufactures in an easy way.

On of these people said that we have a bad customer
service in Germany ............. do You really believe
that ?

You can contact me every day and night and I´m
allways helpfull. Please make Your own experience
with our customer service.

Try to email Randall Smith from Mesa Boogie or Jim Marshall. Peter makes killer stuff and backs it up.
