Hey all,
have been a lurker for sometime and finally decided to make an account, I just received a calibrated pair of bareknuckle black hawks in and just wanted to post a brief review and clip:
The guitar used is a Gibson Les paul Studio, i've owned several pairs of bareknuckles and have never been disappointed from mules to aftermaths, these at first did not have the wow-factor i usually get from bareknuckles, However after playing with the pickup height the wow-factor became apparent (there very sensitive to pickup height). Extremely tight bass on these pickups, Palm muting chords on these i could still hear each note clearly which for me is quite an important thing, I decided to go unpotted for these and i love the results, at first they were a bit harsh but nothing lowering the pickup height didn't fix. I was scared these pickups were one trick ponies, but they do rock to country tones fabulously.
Anyways like most things reading about pickups is a little pointless as there dependent of so many variables, Heres a quick test a recorded if you have any questions on the gear ask away.

Ceramic! although i would be curious to try alnico's as they have quite a bit of energy in the 2khz range that had to be eq'd out.

Thanks man!
i have to say at times, I have boughten guitars around the idea of which bareknuckle i'm going to install, every guitar i own has BK's im a fanboi to say the least.

I just put a ceramic Black Hawk (bridge) in my Les Paul too. First impressions are good, but I want more time at loud volumes to make up my mind. I had some Nailbombs in my previous LP with good results, but I wanted to try something that had more of an active vibe.

Good clip.

I have the 7 string ceramic Black Hawk bridge and in my opinion it has very little in common with an active pickup, at least EMG 81s maybe clarity, it's a much fuller sounding pickup

Welcome! How do these compare to the Aftermaths?

You should buy a set and when your done sell em to me! ;) :D

I just intalled VHII's and then Mules in a les paul copy
been using BKP for over 5 years and they never cease to surprise me
holy diver, cold sweats, nailbombs, miracle man, aftermath, riff raff, black dog, mule
every model I had was absolutely amazing
I've been preferring low output models, but I'll install a warpig tomorrow
the riff raff and mule are probably my personal favorites for high gain amps

I hope this thread does OK as a lot of guys said they wouldn't click on it.....

I would love to hear your opinion or break down of all these pickups

Aftermaths have a stronger low-mid, While work great in basswood guitars, But i was not a fan of it in mahogany, There also more modern voiced. I vastly prefer the black hawks to be honest.

Ive seen you post around on the BK forum, Mules i loved, but my favorite thus far has to be Rebel yells!

I couldn't agree more, I think the only thing they have in common is how they compress with palm mutes, but even then i feel the black hawks do it in a vastly more musical way.
