Quick question about muting the Herbert

Hi guys,
I need to be able to mute and unmute my guitar quickly (because I use it with a guitar synth at the same time, and at times I need to kill the guitar for a few bars of synth only, etc, etc).
At the moment I just hit my tuner pedal which is in between the guitar and amp.
I want to use a Boss GT effects unit in the fx loop instead - if I use the Boss CTRL pedal on the fx unit to mute it, is this ok for the amp?
Ie, is it harder on the amp in any way to mute the signal with a pedal in the loop, instead of in front of the amp?

Or, does anybody know if I can set the CTRL pedal on the Boss to activate the Herberts mute switch via midi? I want to use the Boss to channel switch the Herbert using midi so if I can do the muting too that way then that'd be ideal.

Thanks,
Rich

Bato is correct. You do not specify the exact Boss GT -model so cannot check this, but if your Boss unit sends MIDI Program Change -messages also in the activation of CNTRL pedal you can achieve this with a little programming. I have seen some manufacturers units which can also be programmed to send not only CC messages, but also PC messages from the activation of their CNTRL. However, I have some doubts this is not doable with the CNTRL pedal of this Boss unit so you might need to sacrifice an indivdual preset for this. There has been also a mod to Herbert to accept MIDI CC-messages, but I do not go into that as I do not have any experience on that mod.

Ok, I'm inexperienced with midi so please excuse my ignorance, but I'm assuming you're saying that I can set up the Boss's patches to change the channels on the Herbert (so when I change a patch, it changes the amp channel at the same time), but I might not be able to set up the CTRL footswitch to activate the mute on the Herbert? Is that the basics of it? :)
If so, that's ok because I can just set the CTRL switch to mute the signal in the Boss instead, which would have the same effect, I guess. Btw, its a GT-10 I'm thinking of getting.
Thanks for the advice so far, people :)

You are correct. You must send out MIDI Program Change messages from your Boss GT-10 to your Herbert. So in other words, learn how to program the Boss to send out MIDI PC when hitting a preset - Users Manual will be your friend with this one.

Programming Diezels is just wonderful. In principle, you hit a preset in your controller (GT-10), then make all settings in Herbert and press "store" twice. Of course before that you must configure your controller (GT-10) to send the message in MIDI channel that your Herbert does receive/recognize.
