Hi everyone,
About to be a new CAB user within the next few days.

I'm curious on how to achieve quality clean sounds using CAB. Most of the demos I've listened to all show a variety of distorted sounds. Can one get a variety of Clean tones just by plugging straight in and activating the power amp, choosing a cabinet and messing with the mic position? Or, does one need a pedal in front in order to develop the signal? If so, maybe I'd be better off with Live...

Thanks in advance!

One can get great clean sounds with CAB, either straight in or using a pre-amp and/or backing off the guitar's volume control. I'm not sure why you mention getting a lIve instead, the speaker emulation is identical, differences are the speaker level input/ load for an output of an amp as source and the digital output on Live. The CAB additionally has the inst level option and is thus better suited for guitar direct than the Live.

Everyone has a different idea of clean, is it Andy Summer's Tone?, Mark Knopfler?, Nile Rodgers?, etc. etc. so your choice of what you put in front of the Torpedo will be important....some things we like for clean are the CatallinBread RAH, Analogman Bicomp, JMP-1 etc. but the choices are endless and one can get a great clean tone direct or with a simple clean boost perhaps with minimal eq. Choice of cab and mic will also be very important and Two Notes have several twins, a Roland JC-120 and several 1x12 combos that will be great.

check out the outro on this new video we just did at Sweetwater

(Bogner bypassed, Boss DD-2, Torpedo CAB)

and John Choi's cover of Eric Johnson's East Wes

using the JMP-1, a Time Factor and the Live

I am lining up some jazzier demos that'll have some nice cleans for sure so look out for that

Andy

Thanks for your response Andy. That answers all of my questions I think...

Cool, that was my main question. So that's good to know.

Ok, I just hadn't seen any videos of any clean tones using the CAB. Seems all the demos (so far) are using a variety of gain pedals ahead of the unit, except for the Pete Thorn video where he uses his M4. I just wasn't sure I could get a variety of clean tones.

The reason I mentioned Live was since I have a nice amplifier to use, I could simply just use that ahead of Live instead of possibly spending more money on a separate preamp. If I understand correctly, I can't simply plug in my amp head into the CAB.

Indeed, one's preference for clean tones may differ and so I was wondering what my options were. Thanks for the suggestions.
