Quiet Diezel cab...?

Hello everyone; I have a "situation" I'd like to run by you...

Yesterday, I received my Herbert and a front-loaded x-pattern Diezel 4x12. I'm actually in the studio now (recording an album for a month), so the producer and I played with both the amp and cab for several hours.

The amp is AMAZING! Just as great as I remembered it. It was fun running it through the 10 or 12 different cabs that were in the studio.

However, the Diezel cab...I'm not very happy with. In fact, quite unhappy with it. It is REMARKABLY quieter than any other cab that we tried (and we tried about a dozen). It seems about half-volume. We're pretty sure all of the speakers work, but it sounded quite cold, buzzy, and poor. When running it alongside a Mesa 4x12, it was nearly inaudible unless I was bending down in front of it. We tried many amps through it.

My only thought is that, it being BRAND NEW, that the speakers need a lot of warming up to do. But even the engineer/producer wasn't sure about this theory, as he had just received two brand new cabs this last week (an Orange and an Emperor) and he claims both sounded great very quickly. He's never seen a new cab act quite so cold before.

Anyone have any insight, or similar experiences?

Hi Hamilton,

maybe its a problem with the x-pattern load of the Diezel cab? Which speakers are build into your Diezelcab?

One more question :) ... which cab did you like best with the herbert when testing the 12 differnt cabs :) ?

Hmmm...well, the x-pattern is two V30's and two Diezel speakers. It would be odd if that combination was a poor choice, as it was recommended to me by Uwe Salwender. He seemed to think it was a great combination and that I'd enjoy it...

Out of all the cabs we tried, our producer's custom-made Emperor 2x12 sounded the best! My mesa cab also sounded pretty strong, in my opinion.

Wow...that´s actually quite good to know. I wanted to exchange my Mesa Recto Std 4x12" (Cel Vintage30) with a Diezel 4x12" (Cel G12K100) next month.

Does anyone own one of those?!? I´d love to hear (or read) an opinion.

Yes, I'd love to hear more feedback as well...

Right now, I'd say definitely keep your Mesa!

I hope I'm overreacting or something, but the producer who we're working with was just as surprised as I was, and he's been a professional musician/engineer for nearly two decades.

Hmm, that's interesting. I've never played a front loaded Diezel cab so I can't comment from experience, but I've heard those cabs can be rather beamy and stiff, especially if new. That being said, I could see how the cab could seem really quiet in comparison unless you were right infront.

Few questions for ya:
-How many hours of play time do you have on the Diezel? (being the cab can be stiff, according to some, break-in time may be longer and more vital to the tone)
-Ane I guess the most important question: When you were recording did you have to crank the gain on the preamp or the volume on your head to get the same signal level as you did when you used the other cabs? Or is the volume only an issue when you're in the live room?

I just got a Diezel NYC Cabinet with the X pattern Diezel speakers and I think V30's. I haven't gotten to use it yet, but will let you know when I do. It is rear loaded though, so it will sound a little different although I don't expect it to be quiet by any means.

Sounds like the speakers in the cab are wired out of phase!? Take a battery, connect it to the speaker cable and look at the speakers: all of them should move in the same direction.

I do have and use a Diezel 412R with the G12K-100...uhm what shall I say? Ideal for our gigs (loud, good-sounding, not scratching, not muddy...)!

It sounds very FULL if u crank up the vol. and the bass is not to bassy and does not "whuming"...if u know what I mean...but u can feel the bass around ur legs (;

I gonna post some pictures on monday and maybe I'll be able to record some sweet sounds.

Please send an email to peterdiezel (at) diezelamplification.com

I can reply on Monday because our server will be serviced the next days.

Thanks,

Peter

Thanks for the response, Peter.

As it turned out, one of the sautering (sp?) points on the 2 eminence speakers in the x-pattern had come off. Also, for some reason, several of the threaded inserts had simply fallen out; so a few of the speakers were loose as well. Very strange.

Sorry, cannot reply Your email because we got
a new server. Things will work out till Wednesday
I hope :aww:
