Love my OD808 & TS9 but I don’t love the noise. Amps that sound boosted all on their own seem quieter. So what are some quieter TS style boosts? Interwebz has me curious about SD 805 and Xotic AC, but that’s just based on a couple comments.

What about the cusack screamer? Has a gating effect built in. Very quiet.

So the 808 Screamer came in the mail today from @griff10672, TL;DR, fuck yeah.

So my dumb ass spent the first minute thinking, wtf, this thing sounds weird as hell, then I realized the knob layout is the reverse of OD808/TS9. The Screamer 808 is exactly what I was looking for, it's a TS style boost but it sounds cleaner than an OD808/TS9, it retains more of your amps voice whereas OD808/TS9 add a lot more coloration and noise. If you think of how much noise/coloration a typical TS adds, versus how clean using an EQ as a boost is, I'd say this sits about half way, but unlike an EQ this actually does the TS thing, and in spades.

The 808 screamer can do that heavy thing with the lows like on OD808 yet sounds cleaner with the same amount gain, and the OD808 can't even come close to the high end clarity the Screamer has, if you turn the OD808 tone knob up to try & match the Screamer's highs the OD808 gets harsh. I was especially wanting a boost like this to pair with the Synergy Ultra-Lead, my other tube screamers add too much coloration so it veers too far from the UL voicing but with the Screamer 808 it retains that UL voice, just boosted. Wayne, you're killing it. Still love the OD808/TS9 for what they do but this thing is super useful.

I'm having great luck with a Maxon OD9 in front of my Rockerverb. Dead quiet.

Hey ...Thanks for the feedback !!

Glad you're liking it !!

honestly Griff'spedals are just the best. I have had how many Wayne? 5? 6? every one is dead quiet. Even when I run the screamer and chiron together...it's crazy....

I have 20-25 OD pedals stacked on the cabinet in my music room. I got the Griffin 808 Screamer and SuperDrive and none of those have moved since. Those two pedals cover everything I need with my M style amps. And yeah……dead quiet.

I honestly have to say that the GLO is unexpectedly one of my favorite pedals of all time - same with the RAT. Griffin Analog ATW!!!

I owned the ones mentioned here but only 2 Tube Screamer pedals have ever actually made it unto my boards (and til this day are).

One of those being the Moxie by Wampler, the other being the Sidearm by Catalinbread.

Both dead quiet, both get much, much cleaner and much much dirtier than your typical clean TS clone.

The Moxie allows you to run a modified TS10, a stock TS10, a TS10 with a Timmy tone stack or a TS10 with Mosfet clipping.

The Catalinbread Sidearm offers you a tilt EQ control and a Mids control with alot of gain and capable of near transparent boost.

There's alot of versatility in both and yet, both sound amazing. Both are dead quiet.

I did a review on the Sidearm

I got a vfe dragon recently from the last run of pedals that Peter did, and I’m surprised how low the noise floor is, very quiet. I have it set up to do the usual tubescreamer thing but it can also do a lot more. Quickly became my favorite boost.
