Rack with GCX and line mixer?

What's up everyone? I have a question about how to cable my rack.

I have a GCX switcher and a line mixer. I'm wondering how everyone else would cable their's. I'm assuming each component would have their own channel(s) in the mixer.
Example: loop in (preamp)->loop send (mixer ch.)->loop return (empty)->loop out (preamp). Does this work or make sense? If loop is on and nothing is in the return, is the original signal still at the loop out?

I have:
Randall RM4
Pro Q
G-major
D-Two
GCX
RMX1602

Hope this makes sense.

I have a GCX and ground control pro, but am not familar with the line mixer.

I tell you how mine is wired and hopefully that'll help answer your question.

in my GCX loops/channels(1-8):
loop 1 - VHT head send out to the input of VHT(nothing in the return)
loop 2 - currently empty
loop 3 - Phase 90
loop 4 - line 6 mod. modeler
loop 5 - mooger fooger ring mod. pedal
loop 6 - holy grail reverb pedal
loop 7 - clean input of Bad cat head(send only, return jack not used)
loop 8 - dirty input of Bad cat head(send only, return not used)

so I think this answers what you're asking sort of.
if you're using the loop for an amp or amp channel, you can just "send" to the amp input without using the return jack.

keep in mind though that you need to have a cable going between each loop to the next one in the GCX though whether you use the loop or not or your signal will stop at the loop that does not connect to the next one.

hope that helps.
