rackmount noise-gate?

Anyone got any good recommendations for a GOOD rackmount noise gate?

I've recently started getting a rack built, and my remaining space is saved for a gate. I'm thinking of putting one in the loop of channel 3 on my VH4.

I'm aware the ISP decimator Pro rack G is a firm favourite, but the cheapest I can find one for is about £400!

I've used a Boss NS-2 for years, and I've not had any problems with it. But I wouldn't mind moving to a rackmounted unit, but only if it's going to be better than the NS-2...

Cheers!

I know that there is a rackmount Rocktron Hush but I don't think that this can keep up with the ISP.

But do you really need a noise gate? Imo the VH4 is extremely quiet and I never felt the need of a noise gate.

It's for controlling feedback rather than for silencing the amp (you're right, VH4 is very quiet).

Been checking out reviews and such like of the DBX 266 XL... everyone seems aware of it but no one seems to own it (except Petrucci, but I can't exactly ring him up and ask if he uses it for it's gate or compressor capabilities!)

ISP Decimator Pro Rack G is as good as it gets.

+1000
oh yes..... nothing at all comes close. It was one of those items i bought that was worth every penny of it. There is nothing bad I can say about them.

Anyone in the UK know where I can get one cheaper than £400!?

Man, if you hav a Diezel, is because you want the best... do the same with the noise gate, and get teh very best.. you will never regret !!!

ISP Decimator ProrackG, By far the very best ever made... You Diezel will thank you ... !!! (at the end £400 is not that much if you care about the tone ;).

Ah well, i've bitten the bullet and splashed out the £400 on the decimator pro rack G.

Thanks for all the advice... to be honest I was looking for your responses to confirm that this is THE one to get, as much as I was suggestions for other units.

I'll get some photos up once my new diezel V212R cab arrives :D

Dan,

I cant believe you bought the Pro Rack G, what a piece of junk...

j/k good call!

I use the ISP Decimator Pro Rack G. I do love it but, but be aware they falsely advertise that it tracks the input signal and enables you to use the same settings for distortion and clean. That's rubbish as whenever I roll my guitar volume down or switch to a clean, it cuts notes off very quickly. If I lower the threshold enough so that it doesn't kill the sustain on cleans or volume-rolled-off leads, then its too noisy on full distortion.

Besides that, it does work very well. Here is a pic of mine...

I agree with that, but the ISP an be very, very quickly adjusted. Same thing when changing the guitars - imo it has to be adjusted then as well, but that´s no problem!

btw: That´s my one:

I do agree on the volume roll off but... when using a clean channel with teh input signal still full on or a distortion with the volume full on it does an excellent job. I guess the point I am making is that when using a hush you tend to compromise between noise of gain vs clean where you dont seem to have to make that compromise with the ISP.

volume roll off (input signal) yes will cut off sooner than you want at times but I don't roll on the volume knob so much for one. granted that is a personal preference but I still cant think of any noise gate that compares.

PS nice rig about the same as mine. g-force and ISP..

Another option for this: See if you can find an old Rocktron Patchmate with built in Hush. I have one I'll never sell due to the fact that you can program the amount of Hush reduction or even on/off for every preset. So for clean it's off (bypass), light gain on just a little, heavy gain or where I want heavy stacato palm mutes etc it's on higher settings. It does have a very slight effect on the tone when set at the higher settings but my rig is deal quiet at any setting, at any volume. Just another option, plus you get I think 8 switchable loops too. I use it to even switch between preamps, from a Triaxis to a Rectifier Preamp.

nothing compares to ISP Decimator ProRack G.
i use it with the herbert and sometimes i think the amp broke down - that quiet
