ran guitars

For what I've read in Finnish forums there are a few people who've had problems with their orders; specs on necks differ from what they've ordered, late deliveries etc. It was about a year and a half ago I read thru about those probs.

From what I've heard, RAN's are amazing. But, their price tag makes you go "what the fuck, Im not ordering this" because if youre in the US, theyll run you up around 3k when Import tax and all that other crap gets to you. Theyre over 2 grand alone.

I would like a 7 string version of the Vader guy's guitar, but I know a guy in NY who will do the same thing for 1/3 of that price.

I think that's mostly because of the weak dollar and not really Ran's fault.

What i seriously hate about those guitars is the Ran "logo" tho. I know it shouldn't be a big deal, but writing your name in some random boring font is NOT a logo. It just looks stupid and cheap imo.

I cant say anything about the quality of the guitars tho...never seen or played one in real life. I heard some good and some not so good things about them on other forums. Whatever that tells you :student:

Questionable customs are never a good thing. That definitely turns me off. If youre spending a ton of money on a custom guitar, you should expect its going to be everything you want, and then some. So, it just doesnt really make sense to buy a guitar that will be questionable as to if its exactly what I'm looking for or not.

They must have raised their prices or something, because I remember a few years ago you could get one for about $1500 or so. One thing about Ran is that they have no problem copying any body or headstock design from anyone. I've seen them copy pretty much everything there is to copy. Gibson, Fender, ESP, Jackson, Ibanez, Ken Lawrence, Caparison, etc.

hahaha half his guitars look like BC Rich V's. Their prices are around $2100 usually. They were cheaper though.

Hahaha I guess! Although, I just love the Invader V.

Im having my buddy make one for me =D

I guess copyright laws don't apply in Poland?

I think it's hard to do something legally about private, custom orders. There are plenty luthiers who make LP-style guitars to exact specs for custom orders. As long as it's not an "official" line, I think the chances of successfully winning a court battle are pretty low. Not to mention suing little luthiers all over the place will be damaging for the company.

I believe this is how it should be. If I have a personal agreement with a luthier to make a LP-style guitar to my specs, it really shouldn't be any of Gibson's business. The luthier doesn't make money from taking sales away from Gibson by selling copies; he just merely builds an one-off custom guitar to the client's specs. Gibson would never be able to substantiate the claim of lost profits in this case. And they should probably sue me instead of the luthier, too, as he just works on the specs I provided.

Besides, "owning" a design such as "single-cut" or "3-by-3 headstock" is highly debatable in my eyes. There's plenty of prior art.

(I'm only using Gibson as an example here.) ;)

I was looking at some pictures and Peter Wiwczarek's V's arent even neck through. Theyre all bolt-ons except for a new one he just got.

Well, I can tell you that the Ran guitars are GREAT! I have one, and I will buy another one soon!

They told me it would take me about 6 months to get it...and I got in on time!
I paid 1060 Euros, including shipping costs. That's about 1650$ right now. Not that bad! But yeah, its more expensive to ship to the US. And it's fucking expensive to buy something FROM the US when you live in Sweden, as well. :gethim:

Well...like I said...they make some great guitars...can't say enough good things about them!

Whend you get it and what model was it? Id love to see some pics!

That price is real good for ran.

Thank you! I already like it here!

I got it about a year ago...well...in January 2007.

It's an Ironbird copy...they call it Thunder.

My next one will be a pointy kind of V-thing..like a King V, with a reversed banana headstock...itwill have an EMG 81 in the bridgeposition and a Di Marzio "Humbucker from hell" (that's the nicest clean sound I have EVER had) in the neckposition.

It's an alder body with a maple neck (neck thru), EMG 81 in bridge, one volume and a killswitch. The tremolo is a Schaller Licensed Floyd Rose.

the guy from decapitated uses RAN

yeah, Vogg use them, and he`s a great player so that guitars must be nice.

So does Pat O'Brien from Cannibal Corpse, Jeff Waters from Annihilator, Moyses Kolesne from Krisiun...well...and me! =) Allthough, I pretty much suck. =)

It must have cost less for you because youre in Sweden. Id like to get one but theyre just too damn much! haha

Its a nice looking guitar though, I must say.
