Just a quick TONE TEST I just did at home during lunch break. I wanted to get some feedback from you guys before I really sit down and double track it and clean up the fuckups and mix it with a backing track.

So is this close to Far Beyond Driven tone? Or should I go back to tweaking the knobs and graphic eq some more?

Signal Chain:
Gibson Explorer w/ 500T pu
TS-7 tubescreamer
Randall Cyclone
Mesa oversized recto cab
Single tracked in stereo with sm-57 & pg-57 mics.

Im not sure where to start. You need MIDS, less gain. Less static. :confused:
 
It cant need more mids, I have the 800hz slider maxed the 2khz slider up a little to, no scooping what so ever, and the mid level and mid frequency knob are both at noon. Maybe its the 1-1/2 step down tuning?

I will try with less gain next time, I wasnt trying to make it sound warm and pretty I was going for the dime mechanical sound.

You need a Noise Gate BIG TIME!!!

Hard to listen too with all that mess in the back ground. :aww:
 
Why are you guys telling him he needs more mids? Dime didn't use ANY mids. I agree you need a gate though. I can't comment much about the tone with all the noise. I read an article with Dime where he said he used zero mids, 80% of the bass and 100% of the treble. He used gobs of gain as well and a noise gate to keep things in check.
