So I'm looking into my first tube amp, and so far these are some ideas I've narrowed down to near my price range:

Randall RD45 Diavlo
Peavey Valveking
Jet City 50w

My main playing style and tone preferences consist of the likes of:

Guns N Roses, Lamb of God, Metallica, Ac/Dc, Pantera, etc.
I also enjoy the likes of Sublime, Hendrix, Zeppelin, and slightly less gainey tones like that.
I'm aware none of these excel at pristine cleans, but I'm curious if the Randall could at least be dialed in to a passable Slash/Angus-esque crunch rather than just pure brootz alone.

I'm open to any suggestions, information, or input.

Much appreciated man, nobody else seems to focus their demos on anything but straight metal. I'm honestly rather surprised what little buzz I've heard about this thing; as it sounds to me like one of the best in the price range. Thanks again, I'll probably pick one up now that I know it's more versatile than most people have said.

That's why I did that vid. The amps are perfectly capable of non brutal tones. Go for it, you'll dig it.

I've just been hesitant mainly because nobody seems to be acknowledging them, nor are they available anywhere near me to try out in person. So I might just go through zZounds with their Pay as you Play financing. Any suggestions for good effects/pedals/accessories that would pair well? Also, when it comes to a cab, would you say the v30 version is worth the price difference from the randall designed model? And is the head too wide to make it a mini stack with two 12" cabs? Sorry to ask so many questions, but so far you're literally the only person I've found who has any well informed answers haha.

Do you need to buy new? Because I'd go look for a Peavey Ultra. Here's why. Basically it's a JSX before Satch got ahold of it, so the gain is very nice. You can dial in a lot of different tones from crunchy rock and blues to pretty dense metal. Second, it has a solid clean channel that takes pedals well. You should be able to find one in the $350 range and they are about indestructible.

I'd prefer to buy new, just for peace of mind, warranty purposes, and the fact that I'm partially using GC gift cards and their used prices are less than competitive in what I've seen. It doesn't have to be anything super versatile as my style tends to stay consistent with those listed above. I don't like to use too many pedals, so I figure a high gain amp that can be dialed back to a less aggressive rock tone is the way to go. I mainly use a Schecter C-1 Plus for what it's worth.

You can go ahead and knock the Valveking out of your consideration.

Not even close to being in the same league as your other 2-choices

Well, I wound up taking the jump and picked up the 45 with the matching 2x12 cab. Holy shit! This thing has some serious balls! I can't thank you guys enough for convincing me. Much more versatile than I imagined; and I am completely shocked at how little attention they're getting. Mike Fortin did a brilliant job on this. Couldn't be more satisfied, aside from the fact that my neighbors are developing a new hatred for my playing. Thanks again Killertone!

Nah, I was already pushing my budget just for the Randall stock speakers as it was. I just figure I'll always be able to upgrade them when I have more money to work with.

The Diavlo 45 is probably the best bang for the buck out there. I had the 100 and it wasn't as good as the 45. Not sure why, power section difference? It was just OK. But tried out a 45 the other day and I can see why people love it. Great amp.

Did you tried the 1X12? if yes how does it sound?

I used mine with 2 Mesa 1x12 Thieles with MC90's. Changed one to a Lynchback. Needless to say, both combinations sounded amazing!

i use mine with diy bogner cube with V30
Would like to know how sounds the randall 1X12 with V30 as it seems front loaded and ported

Yep just did another great gig with my rd45 and les Paul. Cleans are much nicer with my strat, but the crunch and leads are awesome!

I got one last month and I still love it !! great amp for the buck, was considering a 6505, but imo, the overall voicing is much better.. just my opinion.
