hi all,

just wondering if anyone is using a Randall RF4 (http://www.samash.com/p/RF4%20MIDI%20Fo ... _-49974134) to change channels on their Diezel Vh4? I read in another thread of one person using it on their Herbert and they complained that there was a slight delay after pressing the footswitch before the channel actually changed? Anyone encountered this before? Is it just a Herbert thing?

Any input appreciated! Thanks!! :)

Hey what's up. I have that switch for my diezel vh4. I see what they mean by "delay" but its not one bit serious. Maybe half a second? It's not by any means going to affect you if you were going from a gain tone to clean. It's not for all that to not get it. I got mine with my diezel when I bought it off someone and if it were to break is buy another. They're cheap! Hope that helps

Hi guys,
I'm thinking about getting one of this footswitches for my VH4.

How d'you find this delay issue? Does it affect your playing?

Thanks a lot!

UPDATE: I see that there's also a 5 button midi footwswitch from Randall, the RF5V2.

D'you know if this one works too?

Besides, any direct experience with these Randall footwswitches?

IMO a half of a second is a hell of a long time when switching channels, I want my switching to be instant, of course I'm talking for live use, remembers, a half a second or even less can make the difference between a super tight band, and a sloppy as shit band...

...totally agree on this. My feeling is that half a second was just an approximate estimation, because I bet you would REALLY notice that kinda delay when you're playing. Besides the midi cable is also important to get a smooth and faster signal flow.

I'd really like to know some more info because if it's that bad, maybe I'll look elsewhere.

Thanks in advance ;)

The two footswitches I used for my Diezels (and I've owned a lot of them LoL) were the Tech 21 MIDI Moose, and the Rocktron Midi Mate. They are both completely different but work fantastically, instant switching, great build construction (especially the MIDI mate) and both will take phantom power from the head. They can both be had for around $100.00 used, or maybe even a little less.

One thing to note on the MIDI Moose though that I had to find out the hard way, is that the receiving midi plug on the footswitch ONLY takes a 5-pin MIDI cable, a 7-pin won't fit, however, it still receives power from the 5-pin somehow, just thought I'd mention that in case someone ends up trying it, I bought a 7-pin cable to use with it when I had ordered mine and couldn't use it.

Personally I'd spend the extra $20.00 and get a used MIDI Mate, always best to leave room for options if you ever upgrade, meaning a multi-fx unit or something along those lines, cheers fellas!

Thanks for the hints man but to be honest right now I'm looking for a simple and compact footswitch for my VH4. I already have a midi looper/switching system in my main pedalboard so I just need a 4 button (or 5 at best) footswitch to use in smaller venues where I cannot bring the full rig.

If Randall footswitches turns out to be not that great, the Midi Moose could work I guess but I cannot find it so easily, especially at a reasonable price. I'm not gonna use it so often so I'd like to stay on the cheap side, you know.

The quest goes on

Bought the RM4 a few months ago to use with my Diezel VH4, problem is that I can't get it to work with the Amp, as you can see the button I press on the footswitch isn't always the channel which is selected

Anyone got any ideas?

It's all in the voltage of the signal being sent from the controller. If you use something phantom powered by the amp, it will be seamless. Some things are cheap for a reason....

I'm about to invest in one of these footswitches for my VH4 Peter. What was the solution to this problem? Was it easy to solve?

Thanks

The RF 4 send messages that are not
necessary for simple program change. We did
some filters in the software to avoid malfunction.
It needs to replace the controller chip.

I see. Is this a simple mod or does it require some skill?
