I had a chance to jam for a few minutes on a RM100 with these modules (using a Ltd hetfield truckster w/EMG's)
1.XTC
2.Plexi
3.Tread Plate (no idea, what it's meant to be.)

It sounded pretty damn good for nice high gain and rock tones. The XTC module sounded very good and had great play on the whole throw of the gain dial. I've owned a 101B before and it did remind me of that amp. The Plexi module was also nice for a medium to late 70's kinda hard rock tone but having owned quite a few reissues and early 70's metal panels it's not really close. Misses that raw, hairy thing on the edges (also using EMG's doesn't help). The Randall is too controlled and tight, almost clinical to match the plexi tone. I had no idea what the tread plate was meant to be but it was definitely a high gain sound and very thick. I prefered the XTC as it had a more open sound in the midrange.

Plus the head had a cool old school cosmetic, somewhat matching the Egnator MOD-100.
Overall I was pretty impressed and if anyone out there is looking for multi channel rock/metal amp you really need to check one out. I'd probably go with two XTC modules with different gain levels and EQ settings and a nice tweed/blackface module.

Anyone own one? What modules do you dig on the vintage side of things?

I actually went to a George Lynch clinic. He played his Lynch Box. He used only one of his signature modules. I thought his tone was terrible. For the most part, I always liked Lynch's sound. I know there are many other modules out there, so I won't knock the amp based off what I heard. I have read some great reviews. I have come to find nothing can mimick the real thing. I used to have an ADA back in the day. There was a Plexi setting that sounded like a plexi, but definately did not play like one.

I've never played a real plexi before, but I'm real satisfied with the tones I get from my plexi module. It's real versatile and is pretty easy to dial in. If I put a boost in front it can pretty much cover everything I'm playing.

Another module I like is the Mr Scary, which is an SLO sort of tone. It's a little noisier than the plexi but much higher gain. Again, pretty easy to dial in with some real good tones.

I'm wanting to try some of the classic modules like the Top Boost and Deluxe.

Even though it wasn't the same as an actual Plexi I still thought it was a pretty good rock tone in general. It sounded like it would sit in a band mix well. I also liked that I had the EQ's on every module floating between 10 O'Clock and 2. Usually a good sign for flexibility on guitar choices and preamp design in general.

The global density and presence controls help keep the EQ's in control. You don't have to mess with module EQ if you play through a dark cabinet, you just adjust your global controls and bring some brightness back.

After doing a little research on MTSforum the preferred tubes are kt88 in the outer sockets with el34l in the inner ones.

It's easily the heaviest head I've ever owned. I have the RM100 and it must weigh 60lb.
