I have a problem and thought maybe you guys could help. I have no sound coming out of channel 1 on my RT2/50. I've changed the tubes and checked the fuses. Both are fine. I get good DC Volts on channel 1, but when I select it, I get no sound. No idea what is causing this. It used to work and then went out one day, then came back on after cycling power. However, it went out again and now won't come back. I tried changing the power tubes, but that's not it. Could it be a 12AX7 tube or something? If so, which one? Channel 2 works just fine. Thanks!!

I had the same symptom with my RT2/50 after (stupidly) powering it up with no speaker load.

Channel 1 was dead silent - no static, no hum, no nothing, and Channel 2 was fine. MIDI switching was fine.

The tech found that the current had arced the output jack circuit card - a relatively easy fix.

That's as close to your situation as I can get. Good luck!

Thanks, I tried replacing the phase inverter preamp tube, but that didn't do anything. I sent an email to Bruce about it. I wonder if I have the same issue. I didn't power up without a load, that I know of anyway. I don't even know where in Michigan I'd take this for a tech to work on it.

How about "The Man" himself?! ;)

Yeah, I have a message out to him already. I know he's a pretty busy guy though and this really isn't his product, so we'll see.

What exactly was the fix and how was the problem determined? If you know off hand of course. Thanks!

There are a couple of authorized Randall repair centers in the Fort Worth / Dallas area. I took it to one, and as the tech was running it through the normal paces, he noticed that even on Ch2 one of the output jacks was kind of iffy. So that was the first thing he pulled, and he determined that there had been an arc on that circuit card.

He replaced the card and that was that. No transformers or tubes were involved.
