Anyone?

if your wanting one just like Randy's (btw...spelled Rhoads) then the GMW is the bets bet. Sandovals are nice but WAY over priced if you ask me.

The Jackson ones are considered "tributes" and not exact replicas like Randys. The dots on the Jacksons are a little bigger. Jackson I think made about 150 of them. I had s/n 133 for a long time but am more of a Strat bodied kinda guy. They are neck thru, mahogany, rosewood fretboard, smaller frets (mediums) and DiMarzio PAF and Suer Distortion as well as an original Floyd. Its a great playing and sounding guitar...I miss mine whenever anyone brings it up :) I sold it on eBay several months ago

the one on ebay the 2nd hand GMW said it had 21 frets?

The order form said you can choose between 21 and 22.

why would that be?

Cheers

Another option:

There's an Aussie luthier named Ormsby that makes great guitars, including a polka dot RR V. Last I saw of him was in the modding section of ultimate-guitar.com.

What do you guys think?

Hi,

Although these are "replicas", they are also custom made guitars, and
therefore you have the ability to change any specifications. EG: future
orders, one guitar will have a Low Pro Floyd Rose, 81/85 EMG's, and a silver
inlay of Randy's signature at the twelth fret. It will also have the
"Ormsby" logo inlaid in abalone on the back of the headstock. Want a maple
fretboard with abalone bowties, ans a white paint job with black dots, NO
PROBLEM!! Of course, things that arent "standard" do cost more, but only if
its going to really upset the production line.

Specifications
Polka dot replica:
- Original "QR/early Ozzy era" colour scheme, or "later Ozzy era" colour
scheme (chrome hardware and white knobs, or black trem black p/up rings
chrome tuners and black knobs)
- choice of set or through neck (randy's was set neck)
- ebony or rosewood fretboard (Randy's was rosewood)
- all hardware supplied as close as possible to Randy's
- upgrade to locking tuners (grover)
- dimarzio pickups (PAF and Jazz)
- Maple neck (laminated)
- Mahogany body (two piece)
- genuine pearl inlay (not abalam pearl or plastic) your choice of figured
or plain pearl
- two pack lacquer finish
- graphtec or bone nut
- your choice of neck profile (can supply templates, or go off standard
shapes)
- scale length 25" standard as per original
- all hardware is the best quality, and workmanship will not be able to be
faulted
- you even get a free "Ormsby Guitars" shirt, excellent!
- my company logo goes on the BACK of the headstock

Cost of each guitar is $2500 Australian Dollars. (check http://www.xe.com for
exchange rates)

Payments are over 5 installments
Installments are: (in Aussie dollars)
- deposit $500 (i cannot schedule your new guitar until a deposit is paid)
- 1st payment when fretboard is inlayed $500
- 2nd payment when neck is shaped, ready for attachment to body $500
- 3rd payment when body and neck are atteched, ready for lacquer $500
- 4th payment when lacquer is completed, buffed, wired, setup, and tested
$500

Payments can be made via cheque or money order (+$20 for international
cheques and MO's), paypal or credit card.

You may make multiple payments at once. Expected build time is four-six
months (from today), as there is a batch currently in production (two spares that
havent been sold yet). The next batch will not be started (8 month build time) until
late 2008. Job can only be booked once a deposit has been paid.

I addition, you can choose to upgrade any item, for example:
Wilkinson tremelo +$75
Floyd Rose (geniune - original or pro) +$250
Seymour Duncans +$30-75 depending on model
etc etc etc

You can view progress pictures of the previous guitars at:
http://www.ormsbyguitars.com/diary.htm
All guitars get a gallery of progress shots.

Current batch: (although not updated, and a heap more has been done)

Well that's not bad pricing for a custom guitar. $2750AUS give or take? Not too shabby at all.
