I posted this in the effects forum as well, but which one should I go with? How are these units compared to each other? Thanks for any info.

Depends on what you want to do.

The Furman is not a normal parametric eq. It's a boost pedal and an EQ all in one unit which gives you a lot of options should you ever want to add gain to your signal.

Without knowing what you want to do, I'll say if you want a clean Parametric EQ get the Rane but if you want a boost and your are primarely using the EQ for distorted tones, get the Furman.

I am looking to add some extra control to my sound in the FX loop. I could maybe use the gain of the Furman, but not sure as I have no experience with something like that.

Is the gain of the Furman easily switchable or being that its in the rack is it usually on/off all the time?

I will be using it to shape my tone before it hits the Power tubes, but I do use a variety of cleans as well...

Most of the guys I know use the Furman PQ3 as a boost before the amp. you can dial in and boost certain freequencies as well as increase the gain of your amp by +26db. With that said, if you are going to use an EQ in a loop or to cut certain freequnecies, you are better off getting a Rane eq. The Furmans are usually used for gained out stuff and there are better and cleaner parametric eq's out there.

I love the Furman because I use it to control the tone hitting the amp and I use it for infinite sustainy gained out leads. Thats what the are good for.

I hope this helps.

That helps a little Gain, s'cuse my ignance. But if I use it to add some gain into the front of my amp, can I still play cleans 'clean', or will they have some grit to them?

I'm thinking the Rane will be better purchase like you said.

Thanks for your help guys.

Well here is the problem lol! If you do use the EQ before the amp, you will have to use some sort of switching system to kick it in and out otherwise it will make your clean sound gritty. Remember there is a solution to whatever you want to do, its just a matter of what you are trying to acomplish. there are guys who use EQ in front and after the amp and they are able to switch either in and out but it gets to be a pain in the neck and you need some extra stuff to do it.

Im thinking that since you are thinking about using one in the loop, you should get the Rane.

Didn't some versions of the PQ3 have a footswitchable bypass?

Yes but they go for hundreds more then the original PQ3. I got my PQ3 for $90 shipped. The New version goes for $300

The originals arent much cheaper nowadays, since pretty much everyone on the Dean forum has been snatching them up!!!

Its gotten fuckin stupid in the last two years since Dimebag died, now that all the Dime wanabe's are snatching them up and then re-selling them for like $3-400 a go, even in bad condition

Sorry to Hijack with some Spam but I have both for sale in case anyone's looking for either
