Rank the Eggy Dual modules you've owned

This is going to be somewhat personal since we all have different tastes, and every module is legitimately good.

for me, at the moment of course:

1. SL
2. EG5
3. EG 3/4
4. COD
5. VX
(sidenote: each mod in my top five has been my #1 at some point)
6. Erect
7. SL2
8. BMan

I feel bad I don't have a T/D or T/V module :(

I haven't tried them all, but:

1. VX (especially ChA, but ChB has been a pleasant surprise. sounds great with Gretsch, P90s, Les Paul, tele . . . )
2. SL2 ChB (my dream high-gain marshall tone - especially with Les Paul)
3. BMan (thought I wouldn't like it, but I really did and I use it a ton - both channels - especially with a tele)

Nor do you have a DLX module!!!

By far and away my #1 ...is...

#1 - EG5 (still own)
#2 - DLX (still own)
#3 - COD (still own)
#4 - VX (still own)
#5 - SL (still a killer module that I don't own anymore...I prefer the COD w/ treble down at 9am to get that type of tone :) or BMAN )...
#6 - BMAN (still own)
#7 - EG3/4 (still own)
#8 - SL2 (still own)
#9 - Erect (borrowed jason's a couple times...my own on it's way)
#10 - T/V (sold)
#11 - T/D (sold 2 of these)
#12 - MHG (returned for the e-rect)

If I had a Mod50 and could only do two modules...it would be EG5 / DLX. If I had a Mod100 and could only ever have 3 modules...it would be DLX, EG5, and a COD. If I had a M4 and could only ever have 4 modules...DLX, EG5, COD, and the 4th would be hard. I would want a Marshall module, but with a bit tightened up low end...So it'd be either a EG3/4 or a SL2. But my top 3 are for sure EG5 / DLX / COD. I could get any tone I'd want with the EG5 / DLX / COD combo. For me the DLX cleans are still my favorite...the EG5 is "my tone" that I've searched for...for a LONG time...and COD is just so versatile. Probably THE most versatile in flexibility...of any module next to the SL. I think there are SOOOO many tons in the COD. It has one of biggest ranges of tones for me at least.

Here's mine:

1. EG3/4 Still the king!
2. VX
3. SL
4. SL2
5. TV
6. MHG
7. ERECT
8. COD
9. TD

Never had the Bman but would like to try one. Would also like to have the DLX. I have the old single channel version that I love. Might just have to conver the T/D.

When I get my pelican case back...you can borrow my BMAN sometime man. I've owned 2 T/Ds...I always think I want that T side after not having it for 3-4 months...i pick one up...and realize...that DLX is the shit!!! Maybe it's just the one I have that has tons of mojo. I will NEVER trade that module.

Deal! I would like to try that module.
On the T/D I keep thinking the T side is just kinda there. It doesn't make me say wow!. I do like the DLX side. Channel A of the VX on the other hand just kills me every time I play through it. I love that module. AC Booster into CH B is incredible.

I agree on the T/D man. I MUCH prefer my DLX ChA to the T of the T/D. I just like a "grittier" clean tone anyways. And the Twin you just can't get gritty....mAsSiVE headroom! It'll be a couple weeks before I get my pelican case back. Once it's back though...they'll be shipped out to you for sure!!

This only really makes sense if you indicate what kind of music or tone you use primarily.

I mean, I'm a high-gain instrumental guitar-rock type. I doubt I'd rank the VX or COD anywhere near the top. Ultimately everyone will have each and every module ranked #1. I want to know what other players, playing the same kind of music and getting the same tones as me, like the best.

For me:

1) MHG - dark but not as dark as people let on about, thick, saturated, vocal-like
2) EG3/4 - another darkish, smoothish, thickish, gainy bitch.
3) EG5 - A little brighter, more aggressive than #1 and #2. Noisier too.
4) T/D - I rarely do clean but this one is jangly on the T side and warm, fat on the D side.
5) Erect - Change the name. It doesn't sound like a Recto to me. Not enough gain for that. A tad more aggressive and a wee bit less gain than the EG5. Still you can dime the gain on it and be happy. Remember this mod had 2 identical channels as per the Eggie site.

Thanks Eric. Your da man!

Think I value my Bman the most although I guess my SL2 is tops in many ways
Like the Dlx side of the T/D
Awaiting on an MHG and that could be fun
Sometimes the EG5 is too cool
The EG3/4 is good and I so want to like it but it just needs a little bit more sparkle (although that may change after doing the cap mod like Aeroic suggested)
so currently
1 BMAN
2 SL2
3 EG5
4 COD
5 T?D
6 EG3/4

Okay, for my eclectic taste in music, from country to heavy rock, right now it's:

VX - this can really cover a lot of ground. I could play all night on this one module with my Strat Ultra, channels A and B and a Tube Screamer.

DLX - Channel A pushed a bit, with 'verb and delay, and my EJ Strat sounds like, well, EJ's clean. Channel B with a compressor and I'm Vince Gill. (just his tone) Sometimes I just get lost in this one. Is that my wife calling me?

MHG - Many have had trouble but I've never had a problem making it cut. To me it's a lot like my EG3/4, but with more gain. Notes just skip off the fretboard like a stone on water. It's fun, and makes me sound better than I am! Don't cut the mids, and keep the treble up - my SG cuts like a mother even with the other guitarist playing a Les Paul through a Mesa Mark IV. Talk about a mid heavy, cutting tone?

Bman - I really liked this module but I can't use it because it hums like crazy in my MOD 100. But when I had it I use it a lot like the VX - on everything.

T/D - Had to get rid of it for the same reason as the Bman, but it's just great because channel B will distort pretty aggressively for as clean and pretty as channel A is. I originally used this to cop Vince Gill using channel B, and look - no compressor.

SL2 - Meat and potatoes Marshall, you can't beat this one to cover that ground almost completely. Damn - anything distorted sounds good on this. Cuts well in rhythm and lead.

EG3/4 - To me, this one's tone is a lot like my MHG. I use it for my edge of clean Marshall sound since I don't have a SL. It's seems smoother and breaks up nice in that range. And it's great for smooth leads of course too. Bonus.

COD - cut the treble to around 9:00 and you can have a nice clean on A, and a smooth Larry Carlton like lead tone. Another one I could play all night. I just can't play like Carlton.

EG5 - This thing is a beast, but in a really good way. I would use this on any song whose rhythm tone is very saturated. It's really perfect for that because it cuts so well. Only reason it's last is I just don't use it that much. - Right now. LOL!

Bottom line is tomorrow this list could change. They are all really great.

I can't recommend the cap change the EG3/4 enough. I loved the EG before but I can't stop playing it now. I put in a socket and tried 5 cap values all the way down to 150pf. I ended up with the 250pf and it kills. 500pf sounds great as well. Takes the blanket off but it still is buttery smooth and warm. Has a hint of the Friedman Custom 45 Vibe to it.

1. EG3/4 - this is the Egnater money tone..love it, the reason I keep my M4
2. SL2 - high gain marshall in a box...guess I don;t use ChA much but I should :D
3. EG5 - high gain madness in a box, plenty versatile with the Bright/Bass switches...another great reason to keep an M4 around
4. VX - this module can do one hell of a lot, esp. with a pedal, bought this one twice...lol
5. SL - great stuff..no longer own it tho'
6. UXL - Eggie equivalent of Randall UltraXL...only reason it's so low is I haven't been playing it much
7. Erect - no longer own it and if I did, I'd have DF mod it...the Randall Grail eats it for breakfast as a stock module
8. T/D - flexible I guess but could never get into the D side and prefer light breakup or warmer cleans than the T
9. COD - hot and cold on this module....don't think it's me at all, the EQ barely does anything on it but I sometimes like to noodle on it..I've bought this one twice already ;)

COD
EG3/4
SL
Bman
SL2
Erect
T/D
VX
XTC Randall
EG5

I dont have the MHG yet or a DLX which I think I would prefer.

I think in a Mod100 COD EG3/4 Bman but that changes every other day

Can you tell me exactly which capacitor to change
I'm sure it's been gone through before , ut I'd hate to get it wrong

Is it the C2 capacitor on the vertical board that has the tube bases on?
This big red one?

Actually I swapped the valves in my EG3/4 to some EH ones to see what difference it would make and they were brighter than the Sovteks were
Sounds a bit better

Yep..swap out C2 for a 500pf cap, and you'll be set man!

OK - caps ordered
Will tell you how it goes

Been tube rolling in my modules and getting some fun results
Got EH s in V1 position on my Sl2 and EG3/4 and enjoying the extra crispness
Got a GT12ax7M in my EG5 and liking the sound of that last night
