Bruce, Ian, or someone who might know,

I had a church give me an old Altec tube powered PA head, and it has a couple of RCA 7027A power tubes. I've read that these are great tubes that handle high voltages. Is there any reason I shouldn't at least try these in the Mod50?

Thanks in advance.

They are pin compatible in the MOD50, meaning you can use them. The new JJ 7027 is NOT the same specs as an old 7027. The JJ7027 is a JJ6L6GC with G1 tied to both pin 5 and pin 6. The psecs are the same. An old 7027 does have higher power and voltage ratings. Ampeg amps were the ones you would find the 7027 in. It was a great tube back then.
