Hey guys, I'm sure this topic has been touched on in the past if I searched it but I wanted to get some up-to-date opinions. Going to be re-tubing my Rev 2 shortly and I'm having trouble deciding on both pre and power section. The guy I purchased my amp from had a mix of Ruby, JJ, and Chinese preamp tubes that sound good together. Amp still has the original ARS EL34s!! lol. So, what would you guys recommend for the metal player who likes to keep things tight? Thanks.

I have Winged C EL34's in for the power section on my Rev2. I had regular JJ's and the C's were a huge improvement - more defined midrange and note separation. I'm not sure what I have for pre's, I'll check later when I get home and post. Whatever they are I'm not changing them as I love the way it sounds.

NOS RFT 12ax7 are the best high gain pre amp tubes in my book really not much more than new production tubes sounded killer in my twin jet also I would vote winged C's if they were not so damn expensive now. For new production stuff I like tung sol preamp tubes and JJ's, and tung sol el34

I prefer JJ E34Ls in my Rev 2. YMMV.

BINGO! Don't use anything but JJ E34L's and Chinese 12ax7B's. Anything else is a waste and will sound like poopoo! :D

I just put in some Ruby EL34 BHTs. I gotta spend a little time with them before I can say how I really like em. I'll report back when I get a feel for em.
