I deserve the flames for this, but I was just wondering how do I change the impedence on my amp? I am coming from using a Dual Rectifier all these years and it was as simple as plugging it into the correct input, however with this amp there is some sort of selector wheel that you have to turn. Can I just use my hands to switch it? Or is there a correct way to do it?

Also... I have EL34s in this thing, I was going through the manual and it says that the EL34s will make the wattage of this amp go up to 120 watts. I'm putting this through a 120 watt Mesa/Boogie 2X12. Is it safe to put this amp in this speaker?

Sorry for the lame questions guys... I just want to get started tonight!

You can turn the selector with a guitar pick or a dime. Make sure to select the correct ohm output for your cab. I assume the 2X12 is 8 ohms, so you would select the 8 ohm output.

Also, if the amp is 120 watts, unless you are diming everything, you aren't putting out 120 watts. Just keep the master volume reasonably low and you are fine. If there is any question, the rule of thumb is your cab should be capable of handling more watts than your amp puts out.

However, Marshall 100 watt amps are matched with 100 watt cabs, so they get the speaker distortion. It is part of the tone, sometimes. Anyway, just don't crank your amp to full volume and you should be OK.

I love my 20th XTC, amazing tones
