Hi,

What settings should I use on my Rebel 20 to approximate fat, plexi AC/DC rhythm tones. I'm not trying to duplicate the tone exactly, just something in the ball park. My 2x12 Egnater cab is currently open, but it's not a big deal for me to close it up again. I plug straight in, no effects. My guitar has hummers.

I did, actually, give this a go myself, but, for some reason, I really suck at this sort of thing.

Thanks.

I wanted to check on mine but i'll have to wait until tomorrow, sorry.Anyways,it shouldn't be too difficult. Here is a vid where you can hear someone's take,at about 3'50'':
Good luck!

Something must be up with my setup - I don't get that kind of distortion from my rig. Maybe cause I have the 2x12?

I don't know,i use a Marshall 4x12 (closed cab, greenbacks) and i really have no problem at all to get that kind of distortion...

Try cranking it on 10, try different watts settings, and use the gain setting to control the overall volume.

Try this:
Tube mix: EL84's @ 100%
Watts: 12 o'clock
Treble: 1:30
Mid: 10:30
Bass: 3
Gain: 1:30
All times are Pacific, LOL! :D
I use an Ibanez SZ720FM w/Humbuckers & a Strat through the Rebel with both cabs. Need a little more gain w/the strat obviously but it gets me in the neighborhood for the coupla AC/DC songs that we play in the band I'm in.
Hope this helps.

Having a 212 shouldn't have anything to do with it. Sounds like something may be a miss here. Have you swapped around pre amp tubes? Maybe you have one that's on the way out. This amp should have plenty of AC/DC type gain.

My hi-gain distortion sounds ok, but the "just breaking up" lo-gain sounds like fizzy crackling riding on top of the clean tone. I just thought it wasn't designed to do lo-gain that well.

I haven't changed any tubes. It's all stock.

Mmm,that's the idea, one of your tubes could be near-dead ;) But,you know,if you're playing at really quiet bedroom levels, with neighbours or family around,it's always difficult to get the right sound. When i'm playing home and kind of afraid to disturb the neighbours (already a very bad sign if you want to play some r&roll...),i use some stompboxes to get my dirty sounds..And,usually,i end up forgetting them... :D The settings from" briguy73" should do the trick, though.Have you try at gigging volumes ?

I play pretty loud - around 110 db.
Then, you must check your tubes..but if your cleans and high gain sounds are ok. ..it's weird

My loving wife offers the possibility that I'm just an idiot and can't dial in an amp to save my life. She's tired of hearing me tweak it.

Just ask her to do it herself   or find a guitarist friend to do it for you ;) Or just let it go and play with the sound you can get and you like... :) The rest will come to you..
