this amp has done this on 3 different nites, about 2 or 3 hrs of playing, last nite i played it for about 20min then left it on about 10 hrs, played it about 30 min,it never made the noises, it seems like it takes at least 2 + hrs of steady playing for it to happen, ANY help would be greatly appreciated, i have called egnater, for 2 days , get a VM, i am too far from a repair shop, & hopefully, dont have to buy tubes i dont need, thanks rammer PS i love this amp when it working

It probably is a bad tube, but you might check and make sure the tubes are firmly seated. If they come loose that can cause problems.

Email john@egnateramps.com and/or nate@egnateramps.com
When the noise occurs, do you happen to know which knobs affect it and which don't? Does the gain knob make the whistle volume change? This will help identify the real culprit. It is just a preamp tube (12AX7), no doubt, but it is not really proper to randomly change all of them. Sort of like replacing all four tires on your car when only one is bad.
Thanks!
Bruce

Might help to buy yourself a brand new tube and swap it out one by one until it stops. There's your culprit. Egnater will replace bad tubes (They've done it for me) but you should have some extras anyway.

i talked to nate last week ,but i was driving down the road, & didnt get all the procedures wrote down, but he said when it happened, to plug guitar into aux in,i did, the noise got worse, luckily i had taken a spare amp(because of the prev prob), i have only worked 48 days of construction this year, so i cant afford to buy all new tubes, & i cant play for 2-3 hrs to have it happen, only on jam nite, i have the chassis out of the cab, so i really dont want to take it to jam on wed nite, there is not anywhere to buy tubes here, i'm looking at a 3 hr round trip to purch them, thanks for the replys, roger

the preamp tubes have diff colors of letters & numbers. the 2 together, are red, the one by itself (by the power tubes) is silver ? so how do i id the tubes ? thanks, R

I think we need more info.......did Nate indicate pre amp tube?? Those are the small ones and you can just replace those at random. The taller thinner one's are the EL84's and the shorter fatter one's are the 6v6's. Most likely it's a pre amp tube problem. If you have even one good spare one, just replace each one at a time to see if you can narrow down which one is bad. Any 12AX7 will work in those slots. If it's power tubes, then let us know and we can help you there as well. I think I'd call Nate or John and get notes.......write them down.

The two red ones are V1 and V2. The silver one is V3. At least that's how it was in mine. I assume the silver one was matched for use as a PI.

The silver one is the phase inverter. If you do have the amp out of the box, turn it on with a speaker connected and wait for the noise to start. If/when it does lightly tap on the tubes with a pencil or pen and listen. When you hit the bad one it should really "take off" and make lots of noise. It may be possible to provoke it into squealing by not waiting and just try tapping on the tubes now. You may be able to cause the noise/squeal. Contact nate@egnateramps.com and tell him you have been in contact with me and I suggest he send you one 12AX7 tube. That way when the amp does make the noise, you will already have the spare tube. You can copy this post when contacting Nate so he knows what has been going on.

Thanks
Bruce
