Hi all,

I hoped my first post on this forum wouldn't be an unhappy one but unfortunately...

Here's a little background to my problem:
Bought a Rebel 30 112 combo used about 5 months ago. Used it on a couple of small gigs and practice sessions without a problem until around a month ago when I switched the amp on at home and nothing came out. Checked the user manual and realised it could be the fast blo fuse / bad power tube so got some new 315mA fuses. Removed the 6V6 tubes first and fitted a new fuse. Amp started up and guitar as normal. OK I thought, bad 6V6 (waith one of them, the glass of the tube was loose and wobbly in the plastic base). Note that all of the tubes are stock Egnater labelled ones - Sovtek in the pre's and Ruby power.
Ordered a matched pair of 6V6GT made by PM Components from a reputable guitar store in the UK (I'm from London). Installed them, re-biased them as per the user manual 40mV. Everything was OK for about an hour or so, just leaving the amp on to warm up bed in, the everything goes quiet. Removed new 6V6s and found that one of them was slightly loose in its plastic base. On powering up the amp with just the EL84s - ok for a few mins, then its gone again. Much head scratching ensues.

After mulling things over I decide to bite the bullet and refresh all the valves - this time I order new ECC83s, EL84s and 6V6Ss made by JJ Electronics. Got them, installed them without the 6V6s first, new fuse, everythings OK, re-bais - looking good.
Next I get the 6V6s installed (note these JJ 6V6s are noticeably bigger in length and diameter then the Ruby and PM ones - is this due to them being a "6V6S" rather than a "6V6GT"? Does it make a difference?). Power on, about 20 seconds or so passes then everything goes quiet again. More head scratching.
Next I remove the 6V6s and power on the amp again with a new fuse. Everything is looking good, rebias OK, leave the amp on for a while to bed in - play through it for a while (this is without the 6V6s). Then pop - off it goes again. Scratch head.
Soooo then I try switch out the new ECC83 in the PI position for one of the original Sovtek ones (still leaving out the 6V6s) and power on again. Everything is going OK, leave the amp on for a couple of hours to make sure - everything looks good so I decide to try the 6V6s again. Bad idea - couple of seconds after powering on - pop. So I take them out again and power on (I didnt change the fuse) and everything looks good again, amp is making noise.

At this point I think I will make a new post on this forum regarding the 6V6s and what to do. As I am sitting at my PC the amp is on in the background, hissing quietly and contentedly, when everything goes quiet yet again.... Jeez.

I rely on this amp for rehearsals and gigging and my frustration is growing and I'm pretty much out of ideas of what to do. Any good suggestions would be very much appreciated. Its got to the point where I not going to through any more money at the thing and if I can't get it running reliably then I'm going to have to get something else to replace it (which I can't really afford).

Thanks for your help!
