Hi,

I received my Rebel 30-112 from Musician's Friend last Tuesday. It's my first tube amp and I'm pretty much in love with the tone and versatility of it, but I am having one issue - there is some sort of internal rattling when certain lower frequencies are hit at higher volumes. It's driving me crazy! And the thing is, if I put even the smallest amount of pressure on the top of the amp in the center near the handle, the rattle goes away. Is this common? Should I exchange my amp? I know this may seem petty, but the rattle is extremely distinguishable when playing in my bedroom and even comes through when the amp is mic'd for recording. I love the amp otherwise, it sounds beautiful with my American Deluxe Strat.

Thoughts? Solutions?

Thanks,

I would try tightening all the screws you can see and see if that helps. Tighten the strap handle screws, the chassis screws, vent cover screws, etc.

Check all the tubes are properly seated. Could be a loose tube, although loose screw is more likely.

Thank you both for your replies. I tightened all the chassis screws and the rattle still persists. The rattle is definitely not tube related, although now I am also hearing a ringing that is definitely coming from the tubes. I removed the top section from the back of the amp to see if I could tighten anything internally, but there is all sorts of circuitry between me and where the rattle is coming from that I don't want to touch. Upon removal, I found that one of these screws was bent, and now it just spins freely and will not tighten.

This is really bumming me out. I love the sound of this amp, but I cannot get past this rattle; it is driving me mad. I have contacted customer service via email and am awaiting a reply. Hopefully I can get this sorted out.

It may be the handle itself that is making noise? I would try putting something under the handle like some rolled up socks or something squishy to keep the handle stretched to length, maybe it is making the noise. I have a rattle sometimes in my combo I think it is my handle though.

Also, I have ringing 6V6 tubes in my rebel 30 combo that happens at some frequencies. So the tubes can definitely make noise...

Maybe you can get a new screw at a hardware store?

I just fixed a rattle in my Renegade that was definitely the handle.

Len - is your Renegade a combo? Can you describe how you solved the problem?

Thanks!

It's a combo. I removed the handle covers- Not easy!- and tightened the screws, which were quite loose. While I was at it I tightened up all of the other screws as well, but I am pretty sure the problem was the handle screws as I had tightened up the other screws before and still had the problem. Tightening up screws is one of these simple things that people forget about, but it can make a huge difference. People should do it on their guitars also.

Never hurts to open these things up either. I opened up my Renegade and found a loose lockwasher rattling around in there. ????????????? Tightened up all the scres I could find as well.

Still got a bad rattle in my Renegade at a gig last night. Think it's a blown speaker. Shit.
