Hi..

I've had a user account here for awhile, just haven't really posted much of anything. I just got my Egnater Rebel 30 head last week, and really having fun with it. I've got one of the older Ground Control Midi pedals, and I'd like to be able to switch channels on my Rebel 30 head. The two options seem to be:

-> Rockman Midi Octopus - I located one locally on craigslist that's really inexpensive.
-> Voodoo Lab GCX - FX Loop switcher w/ amp channel switching support

What I don't know is how the Rebel 30 head is wired in terms of the footswitch jack. I learned that the Rockman Midi Octopus uses ground to tip switching for each of the 8 loops. Will that work for the Rebel 30 or should I just get a GCX?

I would assume you're midi switching other gear, otherwise you'd just use the supplied Egnater footswitch? If so, then yes, the GCX would work, but it's kind of a rack space hog, especially when you don't need the loops. If you want a half-rack unit, go with the RJM Music Amp Gizmo. If you want smaller yet, like pedal sized, the RJM's Mini Amp Gizmo is a popular choice.

Or even smaller yet, the cigarette pack sized Midi Solutions Relay. It has only one switch and needs no power. I kind of ramble on in this video, but it's essentially about the MS Relay switching channels on my Rebel 30..

Oh, and the Rebel 30 is standard TRS switching. Short the Tip to Sleeve and you'll switch to channel two. Short the Ring to Sleeve and you'll turn the reverb on.

I finally got mine working tonight with the Axess GRX4. It was tricky, you use channel 4, set to latching. But the Rebel 30 input jack is stereo, so you have to separate out the signals. I did this by using a mono 1/4 to stereo RCA Left and Right adapter. Then use a mono RCA to mono 1/4 into the amp. One or the two will send the right signal from the midi channel switching device to the amp. I'll post a pic of the thing later when I get a chance. Might make it a little more clear.

You could also wire up a TRS -> Mono cable that has the right part of the cable (either the tip or ring) on the TRS side wired to the mono side. Secondly....You can also buy a Y cable that splits right to two 1/4" mono jacks. I have one sitting in my bucket o cables! :)

I've been thinking of just picking up a G Major 2 and using the amp channel switching on that for the Rebel 30. TC Electronic seems to have somewhat limited information on amp compatibility, so I can't totally verify if this will work. The G Major 2 pdf user's manual mentions that you can use a stereo cable, just like the one for the Rebel 30 footswitch. So I'm thinking this will work, but not 100% certain. Anyone here used the G Major 2 with an amp channel switching setup?

It will work perfectly.

Hello everyone!!

I have a pod x3 live and Mesa-boogie DC-5 with 2 channels and an eq. Do you think it would be possible to switch these channels and eq using the pod x3 live and the Midi-solutions relay? For instance I would like to switch to my lead sound (Dirty channel + eq activated on my amp) using only one button on the pod x3 live.

Isn't the Midi-solutions relay a bit hard to set up? I've just read the manual and didn't found any answer to my question.

Does the DC5 have a 1/4" one-button footswitch jack? If so...then yeah.

No it has a 2-button footswitch stereo jack > one button is set to switch between the 2 channels while the other one switches eq on/off. Would it still work?

Plus I have another question, will I be able to set up the midi solutions relay so that it acts differently depending on which midi signal it receives? For instance I would like my preset A23 on the pod X3 to switch the dirty channel of the dc-5 on while leaving the eq off and my preset A25 to turn the dirty channel off and activate the eq at the same time.

Thx in advance!!! :)
