Help, two issues with a new Rebel 30 Combo:

The volume decreases significantly when switching from EL84 to 6V6 tubes. I know they are voiced differently but I have to turn the volume up 15-20% to compensate.

Strange high frequencies on the drive channel with the wattage settings low. With the wattage set low and I play on the G, B or high E strings I get really strange high harmonic frequencies, particularly on the G string. The clean channel is better but I can't play on the drive channel. I've tried various guitars, switched out the 12ax7s and the 6V6s, set the bias and have mullard El84s on order to try. An open G string sounds like glass breaking. Any suggestions?

I have a volume difference as well, 84's side is louder then the 6v6, might be just a functionality of the tubes.

But it sounds like you need to replace some tubes somewhere in your amp. Start with the preamp tubes. It shouldn't be doing that.

Any of the tube mix amps are loudest with that knob set at 12 o'clock because that is where all of the power tubes are functioning. Dial away from 12 o'clock and you have fewer power tubes running and hence less volume.

Still, it sounds like you need new tubes. If the amp is less than 90 days old and you can isolate which tubes it is Egnater should replace them under warranty. Contact them.

The EL84 side of my rebel 30 is louder than the 6V6 side...You should check the bias of the tubes...mine was off when I bought it....I'd also retube it...The stock tubes aren't so hot....

I have exactly the same issue and am on my 3rd Rebel 30. Did you try replacing the tubes and did that work for you?

(One thing I noticed is that the 1st model I had did not have tube caps on the preamp tubes and the latest one does, so these issues are acknowledged ...and that is a good thing.. but here I go again with whistling, crackling, the smell of burning plastic...)
