I'm looking for suggestions about replacement tubes for the Rebel 30 (I realize there have been similar discussions). I'm noticing some issues and wonder if well chosen replacement tubes could help significantly.

Channel 1 is somewhat brittle sounding, not as vintage and full as I'd like. When I turn off the bright setting and it's dead and flat. Turn it on and it can go right to ice picks, not to mention that channel 2 is lacking in depth...

1) Please suggest replacement tubes you've been happy with... and let me know what kind of music you play (I play everything from bluesy classics to modern rock).

2) Am I expecting too much from this amp?

It looks like you have ,indeed,a tube problem or something like that...I only have the Rebel20 but what you're describing is not commun for a Rebel30,esp. the cleans..

I like Tung Sols in V1 of the Rebel 30, cut back some of the noise and sounds great. I then have a mix of a few tubes, can't remember what else.

I've been using JJ 12AX7's and they sound good...clean channel is amazing...anything but brittle....

I tried some JJ 6V6's, but they sound to sterile...going to put the original Ruby's back in it...The EL84's are Sovtek's....love them...

All my preamp tubes are still stock. But for power tubes, I have JJ 6V6s and some NOS GE EL84s. I have low noise, and both my channels sound kickass

blueskies, it sounds like you have a bad preamp tube.....the clean channel should sound great
