I'm looking into changing out some preamp tubes in my Rebel 30 head. I found the tube chart for the rebel 30 here:

From what I've read here and a few other places, V1 is probably the one to experiment with as it impacts both channels. Is that accurate?

Yes, and I found V4 to be next in line for affecting channel 2 and overall overdrive character.

When I change power tubes, do I HAVE to get the amp rebiased? Or if the tubes are rated (ala Groove Tubes), can I simply buy power tubes within a certain range (1-9 I think is GT's scale)? If I can do the latter, what is the acceptable range to target?

Is it just me, or does this tube chart in no way align with the actual amp? Hasn't anybody noticed this before?

Okay, my conclusion is that if you were to pint the tube layout out on a clear slide and turn it upside down on top of the amp, it will line up with the correct tubes.

Carry on.

The current tube layout is at: http://www.egnateramps.com/EgnaterProdu ... tions.html

V1 will make the greatest impact. V2 will impact your gain tone on channel 2. V3 has a slight impact on channel 1. V4 has very little impact on the tone as it is the FX loop buffer. Do not under estimate the importance of the phase inverter V5. i've done alot of tube swapping in my Rebal 30 head. For new production 12AX7s, the Tung Sol RI takes the cake for me. Love the tone. For NOS, You cannot beat a Mullard B coded (blackburn factory) ECC83. Best preamp tube for guitar amps in my opinion. For the phase inverter, I've found that the current production JJ ECC803S sounds the best.

Good luck.

I would always re-bias any time you put new power tubes in. Even without new tubesyou should re-bias every once in a while as it tends to drift. Egnater makes it easy to do.
