I thought about using the rebel as poweramp for the m4 - and have the tube mix and watts feature .... a good idea?!?

Yea, I think that's what I would do too if I still had an M4. I will get a Rebel for sure and that's just one of the reasons. It'll make the ultimate all around solution to any number of problems at a gig or in the studio or at home too. AND it's only 14 inches wide, which means it could easily be rack mounted. Or it could just sit on top and look cool becasue it's not wider than the 19" rack. That always looks dorky to me when you have a big ol' honkin' head that's spilling out over the sides.

Kinda why we have not done a low watt stand alone power amp. The Rebel is way better to use as a power source!

Seriously, the Seminar amp's FX return is one of the best power sources I've EVER heard.

I'm assuming the Rebel would sound great too.

hello, thanks for your responses!

I think about buying a vht 2/50/2 or two rebel - whats your idea?

How much is 20 Watts (compared to my Egnater MOD50 in low power mode)

If loaded with 5881 in your MOD 50 low power is about 10 watts. If loaded with 6550 your MOD 50 will be 20 on low and 60ish on high. The rebel is a strong 20.

I can understand that. But what about a stereo 50 watter + the Watts knob? Or at least a matching power amp.

Economically, it just makes sense for Egnater to do so.

When Mesa came out with the Triaxis, I'll bet 90% of those that bought either (1) also bought or (2) eventually bought the 2:90 because it was matched perfectly for it.

The only reason(s) I can come up with for no Egnater power amp are (1) no time to do so and/or (2) not enough manpower.

In a similar vein, could you run an M4 into the FX return of just about any tube amp head (like, for example, my Vox AC30CC)?

yes, you can.

Is your AC30 stock or has Lyle done any mods?

it also has to be profitable...and profit comes 2 ways: Production in large quanities or limited run at high cost. I mean we are not gonna sell thousands of 50 watt power amps. We only sell about 100 M4's a year...

I totally get you. Either way, I can easily understand both sides of the coin.

However, one question: Does Egnater sell ~ 100 M4s a year due to (a) that's what demand is or (b) because that's all that can be made in one year?

It's my impression that you guys are swamped over there. The shift from "small" to "not-as-small-as-we-were" can be tough. Perhaps the subject may be broached again once you guys have sailed through this transition.

So....I could have an A/B from the guitar, selectable between the AC30 regular guitar input, or the M4 input, and have access to both the Vox preamp circuitry and the M4. I think. I wonder how much noise the M4 (with no input signal) would introduce into the FX loop?

Edit: What I'm suggesting above wouldn't be my preferred long-term solution - I'm thinking of a way to get into M4 ownership without having to also buy a power amp right off the bat. If I can use an existing piece of gear in the meantime, then that would be cool.

Pretty sure the Vox input would be nullified when you plug the M4 into the Effects Return.

Don't think you can have both--just one. That is, unless you have a hard bypass on the effects?

Not 100% sure.

All I know is the best way to run an M4 thru your AC30cc would be:

a cable from Guitar ----> Input of M4 &
a cable from Output of M4 ----> AC30 effects return

marvcus, the Vox does have a hard bypass on the FX loop, as well as a selectable pad level (-10/+4dB).

I'm not sure if it would work either. The most important thing is that the Vox could be used as an alternative to a dedicated power amp while rainy day money accumulates. :)

A lot of amps will function, but I have run into a few that just suck at it. I bought a VHT Pit Bull to try that once and it was not so good. Could have been a level thing so make sure you have that sorted out before hand or use a level shifter.
