Have any of you that have recently or somewhat recently purchased MIM Charvels had any QC issues?

I am considering a purchase from Sweetwater and prefer not to deal with a return.

Please chime in regarding good or bad QC

Thanks!

Yep. My Warren DeMartini Blood & Skull needs to be replaced. The skunk stripe is lifted out of the neck and they say it’s likely the truss rod routs had it seated funky causing the issue.

They’re out of stock so replacing the whole guitar as soon as more are in.

Crap! Thanks for the reply, and sorry to hear about the QC bs.

Just bought two So Cal Pro Mod HSH. One had very slight fret sprout when it first arrived that seemed to disappear after a day.
I believe they are built at the Ensenada plant along with MIM Fenders. I also have two acoustasonic telecasters from there that were astonishingly unexpected build quality. In a good way. Like anything, ymmv. I would check out Franklin Guitar Works on reverb (mint=new in box) or Proudiostar before pulling the trigger on Sweetwater prices depending on what you're looking for. I have a Charvel P/J Bass V on the way from there, too but am leaving on vacation tomorrow, so won't have any updates on that until January.

Thanks for the reply. I will keep my eye on Franklin, for sure. Enjoy your vacation!

They are hit/miss. VERY. I bought a San Dimas recently that was OK, but I ditched it when I found new Jackson MIJ DK's for $999. https://reverb.com/item/85914052-jackson-mj-series-dinky-dkr-mah-ebony-fingerboard-snow-white-rp Yes, these are new, unmolested, not B-Stock, not refurbished. Franklin bought 20-30 MJ Jacksons on a closeout. They're factory-sealed, brand new. They're 2022's unsold, and discontinued.

I'll take MIJ over rolling the dice with a Charvel any day of the week.

This isn't a Charvel thing per se, but the Floyd 1000 was garbage. Typical 1000 shortcomings. The MJ's Gotoh blows it out of the water.

I've bought 3 guitars from Franklin. They refurbish guitars for the major companies, (mostly Fender Brands), but also buy large quantities of closeouts. I bought an American Series Jackson Soloist for $1259 brand new, factory-sealed. I only flipped it because I didn't care for the green satin finish. But, that was $1000 less than normal, and it was flawless.

I got mine about 3 months ago or so. Great feeling neck! Love it ,not had any problems so far. Put me a 37mm L brass bigblock in it from Fu tone.

Good to hear. It seems like they are one of the premier Reverb sellers

seems they've transformed into Fender completely at this point. Sounds very hit or miss, just like Strats. I've played some absolute Strat QC travesties, and one that shined over guitars it had no business even being in the same class with.

When the MIJ were introduced, I bought every color combination, and kept the ones I liked the most. I didn't have a QC issue with a single one.
