I already have 4 guitars and they're equiped with:

Epiphone Lucille: I don't know what pickups came with it but they sound very good. The bridge pup gets surprisingly heavy :o and playing with that pick up and my Vh4 in ch.3 with hi-gain is what got me insterested in Passives now for my next guitar. The Vh4 sounds way more "alive" and less compress than with the EMG.... I still love my EMGs, tight/heavy, butI think I might be missing something with the Diezel + Passives combo.

Fender MIA EMG equipped: well like it says, it's got a SA/SA/85 EMG combo, and this guitar just sounds RIGHT!... I love it for EVERYTHING...the SA's are VERY fenderish.....

John Mayer Strat: this guitar doesn't need ANYTHING sounds fenomenal for pop/blues/rock. It's got big dipper pickups which are design by John mayer and they are kind of mid scooped.

Edwards Explorer: this one has two EMG 81, I'm swapping the neck 81 for an 89 so I can get a s.c. and the 85 which will sound great.

I'll mod all of my EMG loaded guitars with the 18vmod since I've heard it does wonders to the EMG tone (less compress, more focused, etc etc)

Now, my new guitar will be a custom made Gutierrez Black Siren  my guitar will be VERY much like this one (the black one) but with the superstrat headstock (

whitesiren001ng1.jpg

It'll have blue LED markers, 24 scale, fixed bridge, two volumes two tones....so Gutierrez works with EMG and S.Duncan..... so I'm stuck with S.D. which one?? I want this guitar to do it ALL....I need a nice high output bucker for the bridge (hard rock/metal) and a VERY NICE CLEAN hb for the neck.....something that'll do blues.

 ?????

JB/'59. CLASSIC.

Also, how much is your Black Siren costing you? I'm looking into getting a custom Guiterrez but I dunno what his rates are.

I still need to talk to Juggernaut and set some prices, but It'll be around U.S.$2,000

btw....the 59 is for the neck correct? how would you compare the JB to the Custom 5?

Yes, JB in the Bridge and 59 in the neck. I have no experience with the Custom 5, but the JB/59 combo is a winner.

Definitely +1, at least for the JB!

I have the JB as a bridge pickup in most of my guitars and really love them. They can do anything IMHO, but I really dig them for Rock / Metal... but that's what I play mostly so maybe others with a more diverse background can give an opinion on how they do in other genres as well? Anyway, they also did great in my PRS when I was in a coverband where we played some rock / punk / pop. PLUS they seem to get along well with Diezels. So I'd say at least check em out... maybe you'll like them.

By the way, I bought the set of the JB and the "Jazz" neck pickup for two of my guitars which also was somewhat cheaper to buying them separately... maybe you could look into that combination as well. Definitely recommended!

Cheers

Dimarzio Tone Zone/ Air Norton. I can't say enough good things about that combo.

Gibson 490/498.

59/JB is nice, but I'd take 490 over 59er any day. Now depending on what I need I might choose JB over 498, but not very often, especially with Diezels. Custom 5 has more output & treble & hits very close to 498, it's like 498 with Duncanized midrange; it's very dirty, has a nice crunch, but I'd recommend JB over it if you go Duncan.

If you want to go riffing with tons of saturation on your neck pickups than 59er is pretty nice for that.

You should also pick something up like MXR 10band EQ, gives you a lot of variations to play with. Actually you can pretty much do Custom 5 thing with MXR/JB combo.

thanks for the replies guys, but I can only use Duncans (because Gutierrez only has deals with EMG and Duncan to offer them as stock pups)

so, again, between an JB and a Custom 5 in the bridge, which one would you choose for rock/hard Rock ? like I said I want this guitar to be very versatile........awesome cleans for pop and blues (I've read the 59 will nail all of this) and some crunchy aggressive bridge humb. that can do AC/DC, LENNY Kravitz, all the way up to MEtallica and MEgadeth (no more, I don't play the br00tz)

Good Morning Joey,
I have not owned any Duncans', but I use weaker PAF Gibson pickups as I want the neck pickup to be clear and open sounding, and I like the bridge pickup to be hotter, but still clear.
I go by magnet type and ohms. For the neck, I would look at about 7.2-7.5 with an Alnico 2 mag and for the bridge, about 8.2 to 8.5 to get the hotter feel but still clear, with an Alinico 2 or possibly an Alnico 5 mag.

I find that with with the Diezel amps, the weaker, clearer pickups allow the amp to work it's full tonal range.

I sent Olaf a set of pickups that I had custom wound to my personal specs and he seems to like them. They had Alnico 3 mags in them, but I found the Alnico 2 to be more to my preference in the neck position and the Alnico 5 had a slightly tighter response with a touch more power in the bridge along with a slightly hotter wind on the coils.

Maybe some Seth Lovers, or Antiguity pickups. You need to look at the chart for Duncan, and possibly call the company, or email them if, after exhausting the site research, you cannot get the exact combo of pickups that you feel are what you want.

Better to research in advance, and be sure you like what you are going to have in the guitar, then to get the guitar and only have to start re-wiring it.

Good luck.

If you don't want to limit yourself to these pickups either order them and send them to him or just install them yourself.

Hi,

I play an Einstein 50 W Head and had the Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck as a bridge pickup. Both, Peter (Diezel) and me found it much too hot for the Einstein. I switched to a AGL/Häussel 62er in the bridge in my PRS EC and it is fantastic sounding. In the neck position I have a Häussel Vin, but have to say, that the Duncan Jazz 2 in neck position is also very, very good - maybe even better, concerned to my taste.

I play a strat with a Barenuckle VH2 in bridge - for me the best choice together with the Einstein. The Barenuckles are really transparent and go very well with the Einstein!!!

All of them are very low on output - a agree totally with Steven!

Peace!

Thanks for the repliy Stephen, very knowledgeable as always my friend

Thank you to you too eddie

... the only thing is, I'm spending close to 2,300 - 2,500 already on this guitar so it's A LOT of money already, I don't want to spend 150 - 200 more on pickups, when they offer some nice choices (since EMG and Duncan are nice pickups already.... I DO like EMGs a lot, but I already have two EMG equiped guitars so I wanna go passive, and Duncans have A LOT OF nice pickups too, so I just want to stay with what the offer stock. Maybe later on if I don't quite dig them I can change/swap 'em..... but for now I wanna stick to that.

so, the question remains the same

which Duncans? :(

+1 and put coil splits in this combo for a great single coil tone, dirty and clean - My ultimate favorite combo without question!

I'd recommend a SH-5 "Custom" on the bringe and SH-2 "Jazz" on the neck. The SH-5 is a PAF an steroid with a very full and beefy tone, not too much output and great harmonics. The SH-2 on the neck delivers awesome shimmering cleans and can also be used for lead guitar work. Another option would be a SH-1 "'59" on the neck if you wan't to go full PAF style but especially for cleans I like the SH-2 a lot better.

i just put a jb/jazz combo in an ESP eclipse and a custom5/jazz combo in an ESP viper .
both sound amazing - i like them way better than the EMG's which they replaced .
the JB didnt sound good in the viper though...

i'd say jb/jazz for your new guitar .
