To complement my V4 and Herbert, I bought an old 1968 Vox Defiant from an int'l vintage dealer.
Has 2 -12" Goodmans. One speaker is really GREAT, one is "half blown" or rubbing. Dealer has offered to replace the speaker with a Goodman from his shop, or the dealer can recone the original.
If anyone has a good sense of reconed vintage speakers, would you suggest that a recone is typically going to yield a sound close to the original, or would you go for a replacement unblown Goodman speaker?
Issue) I'm not sure yet if the replacement is from the same vintage era or more modern, but I know the dealer doesn't have the same "Vox red-cap" speaker.
Issue) I'm not sure if a recone kit exists for this old 60's Goodman. If not, is it common to use a "similar" recone kit, say a Celestion? If common, how "successful" is that on a vintage speaker, usually? If you're familiar, this cone has a surround that curves inward, not outward.
Thanks for the help!
