Man I am so happy my Einstein is back up and running. I really hadn't played much electric over past 5 months or so but recently got back into it.

So this song is a tribute to my love of guitar. I will be the first to admit there is some overplaying. Ok - a lot of it. What can I say - I just wanted to tear the crap out of the fretboard and I was so digging the tone!

I am quite satisfied with the tone. Very ballsy and articulate.

I know it is a long song... I should probably shorten it by a minute or so...

Strange Days

I titled it Strange Days because the song has some strange parts and I just recently saw the great movie Strange Days...

If the url isn't showing up, just copy and paste the url...

I had to re upload the file because there was a glitch towards the end...

Like he said, just right click the link he posted and copy it, then paste it in a new window. It plays fine.

Awesome playing and tone dude! LOVE IT...

those Einstein really sound GOOD. They really are beasts too. You'd think the VH4 and Herbert are the big brother, but I see the Einstein as an amp in the same league of the other two, just a different flavor.

GREAT AMP! I wish it'd come with Midi capabilities.

I have the VH4S and I actually like the sound of the Einstein better. More articulate.

Really? Interesting!

Would it be too much to ask for that same clip you posted (or something similar, in gain, lead work, and vibe) with the VH4 so we can compare? :)

By the way, got any videos too?

I should have kept my splitter so I could record both at same time! I'll probably do another song in the near future and I'll be sure to use VH4. Or maybe I'll just record a few minutes of the song I posted and this time use VH4...

either way would be great man.

thanks a lot.

I really like the tone and recording quality. What did you use?

Guitar is Ibanez RG2820 Prestige with Tone Zone pup. Cab is 2x12 Genz Benz G-Flex. I used SM57 and Royer R121 mics for stereo (did double takes on rhythm part with Royer panned left and SM57 right; lead was stereo recording also with Royer left and SM57 right). Mic preamps are RNP and Great River 1NV. Sound card is Lynx2. Expensive signal chain but worth it!

Nice! To me, getting a GOOD recording chain is a top priority (doesn't really matter how expensive it is as long as you can afford it)

I have a Metric Halo ULN-2 unit, with a shure SM57, an AKG D880 and an Audio Technica AT2020 Condenser.

The Metric Halo got fried today! :( don't know what happened, I just e-mailed mhlabs and I'm waiting for a reply. MH Labs is a great company, I'm sure everything will get sorted out though.

I'll be waiting for the VH4 clips :)

Good clip!

I thought the same thing - Einie was the little brother - until I had the chance to AB the amps. At that point it lost it's 'little' tag really quickly as there's nothing 'little' about the tone.

Ok - I just fired up the VH4S, so I'll see what I can for a clip...

Ok - I recorded about 90 seconds of the song using VH4S channel 4. In general I think it sounds a little too nasally if you know what I mean. Not as articulate as the Einstein.

This was a good exercise for me - it forces me to learn my own songs, which in the case of a song like this which is mostly improv style, is not that easy! I think my next song will be more true to a repeating melody as opposed to having a great deal of free form in the lead.

i dont know.

i think i like the tone of the vh4 better, just sounds fatter to my ears, doesnt sound nasally at all.

great playing by the way.

looks like i need to start saving up for another mike to join my trusty sm57!

for clarity's sake, is that the vh4s on the rhythm track? or is it still the einstein?

also, i have a genz-benz g-flex 2x12 that i push underneath my splawn 4x12 (with vh4). the g-flex is surprisingly awesome. are you using the stock speakers in yours?

btw, excellent recording/sound...

Dear Brian,

it´s a good recording and a nice song. Thanks for sharing !

You are fiddling around with the solo parts, but I cannot hear
Your intention. Maybe it would better to play more simple lines
with more clarity. Let Your time for singing simple melodies.
You have to live another 50 years. Don´t stress the time
machine. You don´t have to play fast lines for the best
speed record.

Please record a love song for our girlfriends and wifes.

Peace,

Peter

lol, good one Peter

Well buddy, I must say I liked the VH4s better. Don't get me wrong, the Einstein sounds GREAT...but the VH4s has more Meat!

Like it like it a lot!

Come one, another one! do some Pantera, or some Metallica c'mon! :D

I'd REALLY like to hear some Lenny Kravitz too. :gethim:

I should have mentioned that the 90 second clip I uploaded still had Einstein rhythm...
Peter - you crack me up!

You know, I actually did record my version of a ballad. It was a song I wrote to express how muich Kathy and I missed leaving Germany. it is called See You Again. And wouldn't you know it, I recorded it using the VH4S!

It isn't a good comparison because I used the neck pickup in that recording and it was a diferent guitar... and recorded in different place...

In any case, here is the link:

See You Again

Not much fast playing in this one. Just a very melodic tune...

Here is another I recorded with VH4S. Again with neck pickup...

Worlds In A Blade Of Grass

This one was inspired as I sat in the monastary at Andechs by Herrsching...

Here is another recording I did with Einstein (neck pickup):

Alien Quest

This one defintely has some fast playing... What can I say - I was playing along to Paul Gilbert when I was 13 so playing fast has deep subconscious foundations in my playing...

And if anyone wants to hear a non-Diezel recording, here is recording done with my Koch Powertone II (neck pickup):

Dreaming Awake

This one was inspired when I climed Mt Rainier last summer. I had gone about 36 hours without sleep and on summit day I was having bursts of micro sleep as we would stop for breaks. So I felt like writing a song to capture the dreamy experience of climbing a mountain under severe sleep depravation...

Not sure why the links aren't working. Just copy and paste into browser... Or go to my website, click "My Songs" link and play the song... They are all listed there.

Hey Brian,

don´t get my to honest, was in a bad mood yesterday.
The song is great, just too much notes for me.

Common buddy

understandable... i feel like i'm in a bad mood almost everyday. ;)

brian,
can you record/post something similar to "strange days" with your vh4s doing the rhythm track? i'm just curious about how it would sound... thanks!
