I'm thinking about getting an m-audio fast track ultra and connecting it to my mac to record my Herbert and add drum tracks in garageband. I will be using a roland v-drum for the drum tracks
Is there a better way to do this?
What microphones should I be looking at for the Herbie?

My setup:
Ive got a imac a view months back together with: sm57, tc konnekt 6.
At the moment i run the loop out of the Herbert direct(running impulses) in to the input of the konnekt 6, i run direct because i have everything in the same room, so micing the cab makes it difficult playing to a click track. I made one mistake when buying the tc konnekt 6 desktop, i didnt know i wouldnt be able to reamp. I wanted to record the d.i. tracks first(monitoring with amplitube or something else) later on reamp and record everything in one time.

So when buying a mic pre, go over youre setup first and see if everything fits the plan! (the tc will be up for sale soon)

I havent used garage band, so i cant help you with that.
Mic:i got a sm57, was the safest buy
drums: i use superior drummer, its amazing. I dont drum myself and this works for me.

BTW: good luck with finding the sweet spot for micing

Hi

I also use the DFHS and some mics (beta57, md421, md441, akg414,...). I think with a SM57 (or beta57) you can't be wrong. I prefer the combination of the beta57 with the md421.

Hey there, guys!

Want to continue this thread by asking:

Want to mic Diezel Herbert + Diezel 4x12 RL Hempcone Cab + 8-string guitar with F# lowest.
F# frequency is 46.25Hz, Mic's range is 50Hz-16kHz.
The question is: how will the mic handle the notes below 50Hz (F# and G)? Will it just skip it like it's not there or will it harsh or ...?

Thanks, guys!

Sm57 for sure. The fast-track is affordable, easy to use and sounds decent. Can't go wrong there.

No worries for you. You're looking at the wrong octave. Correct f# on an 8 string guitar is 92.5.

Slyvren, really I believe I wasn't wrong.
If 1st sting 5th fret is A 440Hz,
then 3rd string 2nd fret is A 220Hz,
then 5 sting open is 110Hz,
then 92.5Hz is F# on the 6th string of a guitar in standard tuning (2nd fret).

8-string guitars features F# which is an octave lower, means it's 46.25Hz.

Thnx for the reply anyways ;)

I was wrong. I was thinking 8 string with higher strings. My recommendation then is to get a mic that picks up down to 20hz. Most do. I think with a mic that doesn't respond that low will just sound muddy instead of no sound. The higher harmonics will ring and be picked up.
