I am just a huge noob when it comes to mixing. I believe everyone compresses their bass tracks but I wouldn't have any idea what settings to use. I have Sonar Producers edition and a ton of plug ins. I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some starting points and ratios that should get me in the ballpark?

Thanks!

My compression usually changes on a case by case basis. But the Sonitus Compressor built into Sonar is not bad at all. I use it most of the time.

Sorry, but that's like asking for starting points for EQ. It's just whatever works.

i agree...dont overdo it. cant really give you settings...sorry. i have Sonar and usually use the Guitar Compression settings and just run with that. usually does a pretty good job...sometimes a tweak here and there.

Curt, what "problem" are you trying to solve with the compression? If you're just trying to even it out some, try any of the "classic compressor" presets as a start and fiddle with the compressor from there to learn how it responds.

Yes Bob, I am just trying to even it out just a little. I will try the "classic compressor" presets and see how that works. Thanks!
