cleaning out the closet..found my old cassette "bag"

wasn't even sure if our 05 van had a tape deck and i drive the thing daily! how quickly old technology vaporizes.

plugged in nuno/graphitti---then gary moore live in japan---

oh my MEATY sonic experience!
no squeezed up mp3 itis, no plastic mids, no computerized lows....

old school waterbed stereophonics! psychologically, i felt like i was reaching into the music with my ears moreso than i have in a long time. mp3/CD's have a "fall into the background" effect on me. it's not really a "listening experience" with CDs..even the best of them.

makes me want to resurrect my LP collection now!

I was cleaning out some boxes and found my old walkman and "appetite for destruction" was in it. I popped in new batteries and was blown away by how much better it sounded than my mp3 copy.

I am picturing this Extreme rockfest coming from a minivan with a salt and pepper'd man moving his head around to the beat :D

NOICE! Probably looks as good as me rocking the Yukon soccer mobile while having Blue Powder try to savage the GM / Bose system.

Are sure you are not confusing today's pro tools world to analog tapes and decks? I remember listening to Eruption for the first time on cd, there was this silence and then you heard the tape as EVH started to change the guitar world as we knew it. I sat there thinking wtf is this??? There is still this noise

Then PInk Floyd unleashed the cd with One Slip, just the drums were tracked with analog and I was like...this is getting better.

Then Phil Collins busted the first DDD cd and yeah the drums were not sounding right, compressed sounding and not very large. So again yes I sat there looking at my milkcrates with this new cd player while at Uconn going WTF?!?!?!?!?!

From that day I saved my LPs.

though no doubt cds can sound great on super high end systems, particularly, interestingly enough, through systems that use tube power amplifiers,

but analog tape and vinyl just seems to have skin and lungs to it. it elicits a greater emotional response from me.
just like great guitar gear does.

oh and digi, check this nice find:

yngwie and dio dream on

be metal my friend

Maxell or TDK?

I'm a Maxell guy!

my first and only real deck is an Aiwa, finally shit canned a couple years ago. the stereo salesman's pitch was that the deck could survive nonstop abuse from a bunch of speedfreak engineering students and keep on ticking!

i still listen to albums fairly regularly. i'm not too caught up in the digi vs analog thing? the production quality on the majority of cd's has steadily go down hill, but with the right guys producing and mastering they can sound awesome!

edit; i was the first kid in my school to have a tape deck in my car! got my first car right around when cassettes were starting to take over 8 track.

I just founf all my cassettes in storage. I was listening to Y&T, Malice and Black 'n' Blue.
I have not heard these tapes for almost 20 years. Damn, I feel a little dated. I'm going to have a Heineken.

I still break out my 4 track tape unit now and them for that old school warmth that is only found on analog  ...........John

I listen to MP3s ONLY for amp clips and to 'sample' new music. I get zero emotional/aural pleasure listening to Mp3s.
The fact the people actually purchase Mp3s boggles my mind.

I agree that mp3s are not the best representation of music, but it's not always the medium. Music today is recorded differently than when cassettes and LPs were the thing. This article is very eye-opening here.

Only we musicians recognize or even care about the difference in the .mp3 sound quality. All the general public cares about is b-boppin along to it and singing with the lyrics.
