Thanks! That is from The Great Frog in London and the same one Cliff had. They have Iron Maiden rings too! I have other rings from Amazon that were way lessSweet Skull Ring!
I still think this is the most badass performance I've seen. The sheer energy and attitude Cliff has on this performance is incredible.
And I still remember saying to myself the first time I've seen this video "When I grow up, I wanna be like Cliff Burton".
He was the very best.
Cliff was the most badass musician in my book. He 100% represent what a metal musician was to me. Like you mentioned, from his playing, to his stage presence, to his clothe and his attitude. To me, he was followed, close second, by Lemmy.Me too!! Love that one! Cliff was so original from the tones to the clothes, etc. He loved his family and wasn't embarrassed about who he was and just did his thing and didn't give a crap. He was cool and didn't have to try.
I think James struggled so much with Cliff's death because in addition to losing your friend right in front of you, he looked up to him and respected him.
I was only 16 when Cliff passed but that year I dove right in to Metallica and was becoming a super fan. My friends and I were planning on seeing Metallica a few weeks later in Germany, right near where we lived. Would have loved to have seen him play.
I agree with you. We can't tell what would've happened if he was still alive. That's why I celebrate his time in the band so much... because that was it. Once he was gone, there is no more ifs... because it won't ever happen again.I loved and respected Cliff during his era as much as anyone but I hate it when people postulate with utter conviction, "this is what Cliff/Metallica would've done if he hadn't died". No one knows, not even Cliff, because the future hadn't happened yet. Also, people change with age and success so it's unwise to speculate what he would've done at age 27 vs 22.

I was in the crowd for that -- August 31st 1985 at the Oakland A's stadium
This is the song I remember from that day
I would've paid good money to see that in person!
Thanks to the lack of bass, every time I play AJFA, I always wonder what it would’ve sounded like with Cliff and what other songs they would have written with his inclusion.I loved and respected Cliff during his era as much as anyone but I hate it when people postulate with utter conviction, "this is what Cliff/Metallica would've done if he hadn't died". The real reason Cronos was crying was because, only 1 year before that, Metallica was opening for Venom! You're a lucky man!!!
I remember reading at the time, on a Metal publication in Brazil(might've been the one named Rock Brigade),don't know if it's true or not, that Cronos, from Venom, was at that concert, and was caught crying during For Whom The Bell Tolls, and when noticing the reporter was kind of surprised to see him crying, he replied "These have to be the most beautiful lyrics I've ever heard".
I would've paid good money to see that in person!
LOL!!! True! The real reason Cronos was crying was because, only 1 year before that, Metallica was opening for Venom!
