Removal of Herbert tubes

Generally speaking, with tube amps I know you can safely remove power tube pairs to lower the output. Theory goes: you remove power tubes pairs and half the ohm-age (e.g. 100watt, 4 power tubes plugged into 8 ohm cab, removal of 2 power tubes requires using the 4 ohm output on the amp into the 8 ohm cab).

But, given the Herbert has 6 power tubes, does the same principle still apply? What if you went down to 2 tubes and were using an 8 ohm cab - there's no 2 ohm output on the Herbert!!

I want to be able to experiment with different tube combinations, without having to lay down the cash for 6 tubes (4 would be better!).

I've searched the forum and can't find this being addressed before, so apologies if it has.

Cheers!!
