GMW Kramer 5150...
If you found this, you probably know the guitar...
Lee Garver builds absolute quality instruments, Very few of these were handmade before they were told to stop…
Absolutely beautiful condition, I can’t find anything wrong with it, but it can’t be perfect so I would give it a 9.5 out of 10… This is why I chose excellent condition instead of mint, (mint, to me, means brand new)
Unlike the new ‘official’ 5150 version:
…the GMW has the proper neck, the proper nut 1 5/8 inches, the proper skunk stripe on back of neck, the proper tuners, the proper sized/shaped headstock, the proper logo, the proper wood, (NOT basswood) the proper frets, the original 1984 big block real German Floyd Rose, (stainless steel parts/scews on bridge and nut) The proper paint job with proper 5150,
The guitar has a 1980s MJ wound Seymour Duncan JB

What type of wood is this GMW body? The only other wood Kramer was known for using was poplar and at times maple to my knowledge. I have two poplar Pacer imperials from 1983. This was around 1985-86 for 5150. I know he had a Kramer on the 1984 tour with 1984 on it unless that one became the 5150 with new numbers, not sure what that body was either.

All I have read was Basswood and some conjecture beyond that.

Nice guitar...

Thanks guys, yes… There is lots of debate on whether it was alder or poplar, Either one is extremely close in tone, but Kramer had no basswood bodies at that time… Only alder, poplar and real heavy maple…
Paul Unker (Kramer employee at that time who painted and assembled quite a few of Eddie’s guitars) ‘believes’ it was poplar, he’s sure it was not Basswood.
Not sure if it’s true or not but I have been told that Eddie was introduced to the basswood idea in late 89 or early 1990 by Steve Lukather, henceforth the music man’s were made from basswood with maple tops…

So which body wood is your 5150 guitar? Alder or Poplar?

You get a free bump from my curiosity.

Alder, which I’ve always been happy with, it’s a little stronger and less prone to dents. I actually have an 80s Kramer made of Poplar and the exact same guitar made of alder and the alder feels just a slight slight bit tighter and easier to play, (poplar, like basswood, is very cheap, soft and Puggy) but it’s so close that you would never know unless you played one right after the other two or three times, just my experience, other people may feel differently, Tone is so subjective…

Anyways, it’s a beautiful guitar that plays exceptionally well and sounds amazing and it’s very rare, I have a bunch of health bills to pay for or I would keep this guitar forever!
Someone will be very happy when they feel this guitar in their hands, it’s extremely solid…

The buyer fell through the ice… I think he drowned, LOL
The guitar is back up for sale.

Keith, you must be getting ready to work a deal for mine
