I just bought this amp last week @ GC. I may have played it 5x max. I have been playing it a very low volume. I have not had the opportunity to crank it up yet. Tonight I powered up the amp for about 10 min before going off stand-by. As soon as I flipped the switch to play there was an audible thump/pop from the speaker. I unplugged the cable from the amp and the popping continued approx every 6 seconds. I turned off the amp and repeated without the cable plugged in. Flipping to play caused no sound. After about 20 seconds the thump was back but more random this time. Time span between pops is longer now.

I just had the same issue with 90 day old tubes in my Rebel 30.
It was the EL-84 power tubes. Tubes now days are a crap shoot..... seriously, it's comical, beyond stupid......
Bummer it happened with your brand new amp though.
If you bought it at GC, just take it back and have them exchange the amp.
Thats the quickest fix.
Or get ahold of Egnater customer support and they will ship you new ones.

@Steedee
Thanks for the response.
It sucks when you want to play but can't because the amp is popping.

NP.
In the future, pick up a complete set of back up tubes for your amp.
What I like to do is verify all tubes are functioning properly with 2 complete sets.
Then I configure for best sound, and keep the remaining for back up and troubleshooting.
You have to have "known good" tubes to swap during troubleshooting.
Like when you have thumping and popping noises. :)

You really don't need to replace all the tubes since it probably is only one that may be bad. The suspect tube can be identified simply by knowing which knobs affect/stop the noise and which don't.
1) Does the noise occur regardless of which channel is on?
2) Which knobs affect/stop the noise and which don't.

Next time your amp does this, quickly switch channels to see if the noise is on both. Then turn the channel gains and masters off to see if one of them stops the noise. Then see if the main master stops it when set to '0'. With the reverb on, does the popping noise have reverb on ot or is the noise "dry" regardless of the reverb knob settings?

Thanks for the response. I ended up taking it back to GC and getting the renegade head and 2 x 12 cab. I had been thinking about doing that anyway. I really love the tones these renegades produce.
I just got home ready to jam and realized GC forgot to give me the casters. A 50 mile drive for casters just don't seem worth it :)

I would call them up. They shouldn't have done that. They can ship them out to you. Or they can issue a credit to you. They can afford it. Don't stick it to yourself for their benefit.
