The Rebel 30 can run in Silent Recording mode without the speakers on.

The Renegade has a Direct Recording Out, but it looks like it cannot run without the speakers on (or without an external load box).

Is this accurate?

Thanks!

You are correct. You would need a cab hooked up or a load box.

Right, so, if I got it straight, the Renegade direct out circuit is a speaker-simulation circuit like the Rebel, but it does not have the load, which makes the Rebel 30 is the only current Eggie product that includes a speaker simulation circuit AND built in load so it can run without the speakers connected.

Just trying to see my options. I sold my M4 about a year ago because I really needed a silent rig for recording, and I now have an AxeFX. I really really love the AxeFX - it is by far the best modeler on the market. But, I really really miss having a real amp, and I especially miss having an Egnater. I tried out a Rebel 20 when they came out, and I like it, but again, it gave me no silent record option, so I let it go.

But, to get back into an Egnater amp now, I would need to unload the AxeFX. The Rebel 30 with the silent record circuit is therefore extremely interesting to me for that very reason...

Although I could go with the Renegade, use the direct out, and get a THD Hot Plate to run as a load so that I could run without a speaker....

AHHHHH - decisions decisions!!!!

(On a less stressful note - I took delivery of my new Olympic White Suhr Classic yesterday!!!) yippeeeee

seriously, how good is the direct recording on the Egnaters?

is it at least as good as a micing the cab?
