A customer of mine has a Renegde 112 combo and the fan makes a lot of noise and I have notice this on others as well. What he wants to know is can you disconnect the fan and run the amp without it? He wants to record with it and the fan noise is too much.

Thanks

My understanding is that the fan can be disconnected periodically for things like recording sessions. The fan is there to help the tubes last longer, not to keep them from bursting into flames.

I'm sure others will be happy to either correct me or support me on this.

Customer support is cooperative in providing fan replacement kits too. I did this with my Renegade 212 and the fan is quieter now. Can't even hear it running on stage (when everything is quiet) but I can in my practice room.

Tell your customer the direct out feature on these amps is awesome. I think it sounds better than micing.

Regardless, he has some options.

Good luck.

I would think that for just recording you could simply disconnect the fan without any problems.

Is there a very quiet replacement fan anyone has used?

I'm sure there are a variety of aftermarket fans you could replace it with. Customer service is very cooperative about replacing noisy fans though. This seems to be a common problem.
