Renegade hum?

Hi, I am starting to notice a hum with my newer renegade head. The weird thing is, when I was checking the bias, I put the small screwdriver to turn and as soon as I moved it just a tiny bit, it went away. I got it up to where I wanted it to be, and the darn hum came back. It's weird. Could it be a bad tube? It goes away when I touch the el34 side. I was going to take the tubes out and reseat them. Any other ideas? It doesn't get louder when I turn the amp up, I am not using any effects. I don't even have the footswitch plugged in. Just guitar into head and into tourmaster 212 cabinet.

Any and all ideas are welcome. I should say, I dont have a spare set of EL34s here at home. I was thinking of swapping those out tomorrow as well.

Thanks everyone!!

Steve

My first thought was also a bad tube, or at least a very unmatched pair. Do you have the hum with the tube mix knob set fully to either 6L6 side or EL34 side, or both?

With amp off, remove the EL34 pair and power on the amp to see if the hum is gone. If you still have the hum, try the same for the 6L6 pair. Just temporarily to check for hum, as the current will increase a little for the remaining two output tubes.

The hum doesn't go away when I use the mix knob. I will try and pull the EL34's as soon as I get home and see if that makes it go away.

Thanks for the reply!!!

this happened to me the other day and I changed the el34s no hum

Okidoki.
Can this be tested with the blending knob set only on the 6l6 or is it necessary to change them anyway?

My Renegade has been repaired. They build in some new resistance.
They also modified the amp.
Tested and the Hum is gone!!!
