Renegade in distress

I got a new Renegade head in November from an online retailer but upon arrival it wasn't working. The power tubes glowed, but no lights on the front panel and no signal. Fuse was OK.
Had the local authorized Egnater repair shop check it out and found it was a bad tube. Took a few weeks to reconcile, but got it squared away and took it home in late December. Sounded GREAT. Played it regularly at home through my 2x12 cab at regular room level and really got familiar with how I wanted it.
Once I got comfy with it at home, I was going to debut it at band rehearsal for the first time last Sunday 3/27. Same exact problem happened. It wouldn't fire up. Power tubes glow, but no front panel lights or signal. I transported it safely with no issues inside my SUV.
Very frustrating. It's back at the same repair shop but I really hope this isn't a recurring problem. I really like the amp's features and the sound when it's working. Saved up for about a year to get it. Read great things about it before and after I bought mine. Just wish I could say mine was reliable.
Any similar issues out there or thoughts on the problem? Like I said, it's at the repair shop with the pros but I want to try to figure out if this is a big concern or if I'm just having a bad luck run right now.
Thanks,
Ryan

My Renegade has been great. A couple of minor issues that C.S. has taken care of like a champ.

Renegades are awesome!

I bought my 212 Renegade about the same time as your purchase.

While I don't play it 24-7, I do play it a lot and it has worked flawlessly for me every time, and has sounded great!

I do hope the problem that you are experiencing is remedied quickly!

Sounds like the repair shop may have misdiagnosed the problem the first time. A bad tube would not cause the front panel lights to go dead. Sounds more like a connection or part in the low voltage power supply is failed/broken/? The reason it may appear to be recurring is because it was likely not fixed properly the first time. Please let us know what the outcome is. I would like to know exactly what the diagnosis was and what steps were taken to correct it. There is always a very remote possibility that this is not related to the problem back in December but.......more likely it is an intermittent connection/problem that was OK until you moved it from home. Of course this is all speculation since I have never actually seen your amp.

Bruce,
I have to say it's impressive to have this sort of access to you. Thanks for the response.
The repair shop was getting an RA# from Nate yesterday and were going to take it from there. They seem like a good, reliable group so I don't want to imply that they fell short. I do hope though that they have the authority to really get in and see what's going on with the amp though, so I have it gig ready for years to come. Great design and features so I want this thing to be my go-to amp!
I'll be sure to get more info and pass it back to you on the earlier diagnosis. Might even have official language on my earlier receipt.
Thanks again for the response and interest! This is where this forum is so helpful.

OK....thanks !! FYI, I was not implying the shop was not skilled or incompetent. Trust me, I have missed more intermittent problems and made enough mistakes in my life than I care to think about. Let me know how it goes. You can email me at bruce@egnater.com if you prefer.

Bruce,

At the risk of sounding like a suck-up (and as someone who generally has a distaste for the kind of post I'm currently writing :scared:  :aww: :( ) I'll say that your honesty and humility impress me.

I was once a member on a forum with a major guitar builder where the owner participates regularly. I love their guitars but the owner runs the forum with what seems like a narcissistic stranglehold on content, what's said, how it's said, and how he is perceived as the powerful overlord of the forum - frequently threatening to kick people off for what seem like very minor infractions.

As a result I left the forum before I was kicked off. I very much appreciate your contrasting approach. For my part, it's helping to breed Egnater loyalty.

o.k.... I'm done... :m9:

You are an ass-kisser, but I agree with what you said. :)

Bruce,
Thanks again. Excellent service and accessibility. Makes me want the amp back even more (count me in the ass kissing group I guess).
I'll take you up on your offer and send an e-mail to make it easier and not bog this down with minutiae of my repair. I'm optimistic that my Renegade will get squared away for good.

Ugh... you're right. I'm just very impressed when I see real customer service. It's so unusual anymore. A few companies (guitar and otherwise) are doing it. But not very many.

Sorry for the gross display. I hate guys like me..

OK. I just got the amp back. Took a while because apparently the wrong replacement fuse holders were sent the first time. Oh well.
Anyway, FWIW it had fuseholder issues. Broken F1 and F2 fuse holders (legs). They were replaced, and some resoldering done to seat other power supply board fuseholders on the PCB. Not sure if anyone else may have this problem in time, but it's here as a reference if it helps someone.
Glad to have it back, as it sounds great. The guys at the shop commented on how good the amp sounded during test. Hope it's the last time they get to hear it!
