I have noticed an interesting anomaly with the 2 Main volumes on my Renegade. John Ewing says that Main 2 is just another volume pot in series with Main 1, and that they have the same values...but.. as example.. If you have the Main 1 set at 12 o'clock with Main 2 off you will have "x" volume. But.. if you turn Main 1 off and set Main 2 to just above 9 o'clock (you must also engage with the ft. sw.)you will have the same overall volume. I have found that using just the Main 2 as my volume has a fuller, punchier, more open, tone than using just Main 1.
This would imply to me that :1) The pots are not the same in value...or there is more going on there..or 2) If they are suppose to be the same value there is a vast lack of consistency between the two.
I have played 3 other Renegades and found the same to be true on all 3.

Not sure I quite understand the issue. The 2nd master is actually in series with the ground end of the MAIN master. The "proper" way to use this feature is to first set you normal volume with the 2nd master off, then use the 2nd master os the boost volume. Is that how you are using it? As far as the actual pot values, that really is not of concern as they are not really at the same location in the circuit.

Thanks for the quick reply Bruce. I do set up my amp in the proper way as you have mentioned , But I did experiment alot and found that if you use just Main 2 as your Master Volume( with Main 1 all the way down and ft/sw engaged for Main 2) it is much fuller and punchier. A different flavor. And much louder also... was curious as to why the tonal difference...it is actually quite nice and causes the amp to respond in a different way...just adding more options to an already great tonal palette.

Curious..........I will try your "unorthodox" method of using those knobs. Keep in mind, louder always sounds better. If you use the normal method compared to the IGWT method at the same loudness (so one setting is not louder than the other), do you still hear the difference in tone?

Yes I do still hear the difference in tone. When I did this I set them so the volume was the same.
Using Main 2 only, was as loud set at barely past 9 0'clock as using Main 1 was set at 12 noon. (Using both in the intended manner to get the same volume, with Main 1 still at noon, I had to set Main 2 just a little before 8;30.)
Even with the volumes the same, using Main 2 only, was fuller, punchier, and more open sounding, there was also a little more sustain and slower decay on both chords and single notes. ( slightly less compressed for lack of a better description.) Just a different flavor in a very good way. That is the reason that when John told me that the two pots were Identical I thought maybe one was just different or off from the other but when I tried 3 other unit's and they all did the same, I was curious as to why this works this way...it really is a nicety to have even further tonal options and I thought maybe this had been intentional, but it is cool nontheless.

I am using a stock TM2x12 cab but have replaced all the pre-amp tubes with NOS Mullard, Valvo's, and Amperex.
I have found the Renegade to be incredibly responsive to NOS pre's, even more so than my TOL100's, and TOL50's.
