Renegade performance in a band situation

My new Renegade head sounds great. I've been using it with split Vintage 30 / G12H cabs.

I have not used it in a band situation yet and I'm concerned that it might not cut through the mix as much as I would like. My points of reference are a Marshall JMP Master Volume and a Splawn ProMod. And I generally play classic / hard rock music.

Has anyone used their Renegade in a similar situation? Will the Renegade really cut through the mix (tonally speaking, not just sheer volume)?

Make sure you don't dump your mids and you should be fine.

I appreciate the replies, but I can't tell if you guys are speaking from actual experience or just assuming that the amp would cut thru.

The tone of this amp reminds me of previous disapointments with amps that sounded great on their own, but got lost in a band mix. So I'm a little skeptical. I won't have a chance to try it in a band situation for another couple of weeks (if I don't sell it before then).

Well, all I can say is that I've gigged my Mod 50 with Bassman and SL2 (which is similar to the Renegade) and I never had problems cutting through.

But, no matter what we or anyone else tells you, you just have to try it out and see man.

I think it will ROCK!!

I have done 6 shows with my Renegade and it is Awesome!! I have got nothing but compliments on my tone. I use the Direct out and mic my 4x12. You will not be disapointed!

Thats why amps have EQ, so you can make them cut through more if needed. Just don't make it a bright ear peircing treble factory please

I did play it back to back with a JVM and really had no problems hearing either amp,but again, what these guys said

Ronmail, I see what you're saying. There ARE amps that sound great on their own, but totally get lost in a band mix. I think we've all owned some at one point or another.

My educated guess that the Renegade will cut great is based on a few things:

1. The renegade is not a mid-scooped type tone. It has a big, powerful midrange.

2. Even though I have not played the Renegade in a band situation, I have played the amp, and it sounds very reminiscent of some of my modules in my Mod50, which DOES cut very well in a band situation.

It should do just fine. I have found that the tone settings when playing alone must be different than when playing in a band situation. I have found that I need to increase the midrange and sometimes presence when playing in a band, no matter what amp I am using.

One of the many great things I've found with Bruce Egnater's designs is that they all sound great in live band/music situations....Take the Renegade to your next gig...You'll see....

Looks like he's selling the amp anyway. He's asking a fair price I think........good chance for someone to pick up a Renegade man.

If it's anything like the Rebel it'll cut through great.

Yeah... I did end up selling it just this week. Great features and great tone. But I have two amps that I like better and couldn't afford to keep all three. In all honestly, I never did jam with a band with the amp for the ultimate test.

Maybe I can give some feedback after this weekend. I am holding auditions for a new band and will be using the Ren. I'll let you know how it goes.

My "gut" feeling is that it will not be a problem. This bad boy has plenty of midrange, at least on Ch 2. The one amp I've had that got lost in the mix was a Boogie Dual Rec.

Yeah, the secret to the Dual Recs is cranking the mids to about 3:00. Never liked those amps except for the Tremoverb. Good luck on the auditions. I think your Renegade will do juuuust fine.
