I have always run these controls on the low side(less then 12 o'clock ) recently have started to run them higher. Don't know if its my old ears or just comparing the renegade to my JCM 800 and 5150 heads. I'm finding the other two amps have a lot more bite and to get this on my Renegade I'm having to run my presence at 3 o'clock and density is up to 1 o'clock. What are you guys running these at? The manual IMHO seems to say not to run them that high.

For me it depends on the volume I'm playing. Lower volumes mean higher settings on these controls. Higher volumes mean lower settings.

There is no right or wrong. Set them how you need to in order to get the sound you're looking for. Don't be afraid to let your Renegade have its own voice though. No need for it to necessarily sound like your other amps.

Good luck.

good advice, thanks.

I'm the same as hbucker. The louder you play the less you need to have them at a high setting. Although I have noticed it's also about where you are sitting/standing in relation to the amp sometimes.

It's amazing how at low volumes while you're standing away from the amp it can sound a bit 'fizzy' for want of a better word, because you're not pushing the tubes, but when you get your ear right down the to speaker it sounds amazing and as if you're at a high volume. Wish you could always have that sound that's coming out directly at the speaker no matter where you are and volume - the joys of valve amps.

This is what it says in the manual about those knobs. Whatever sounds right/good to you is the correct setting.
Also, read TechNote 101 at egnateramps.com. There is some good information about why speakers sound the way they do.

DENSITY: This control varies the amount of deep, low end in the power amp section and affects both channels. Higher settings create a really big, full low end. Use this control sparingly at high volumes. Excessive bass boost at high volumes can cause some speakers to break up (technical term is “fart out”).

PRESENCE: Adjusts the amount of overall “brightness” in the power amp section and affects both channels. Use this knob sparingly also. To much PRESENCE boost, especially at high volumes, can make your amp sound harsh.
NOTE: The PRESENCE and DENSITY controls are boost only type controls. This means that when the knobs are all the way down, they are not adding or subtracting from the sound. As you turn them up, you are only boosting the low and high content. It’s fine to have them off if that works for your tone.

it all depends on the Master volume and your settings honestly. I was running them around 12:00 and a few weeks ago I tweaked the OD channel for metal and automatically set the Presence around 4:00 and the deep around 4:00 too.......sound fenomenal!

I play mine every weekend at a fairly quiet volume and have the density dimmed and the prescence at about 3 o'clock. Think hard rock rhythm tone.
