Wait, aren't toroidal transformers those donut looking ones that are used in solid state power amps? I didn't think guitar amps used them often...

Another total n00b question: I can see wanting to know for curiosity sake, but why would this be a deal breaker either way if the amp sounds amazing?

How could this be a deal breaker?!?!?!
I've had many Toroids that sounded awesome, including my Egnater IE-4.
The Egnater Mica 100 has a Toroid.
My CAE 3+ came with a Toroid. Everybody told me it would sound killer with a "Transformer upgrade".
Well, about $300 later, it sounded MAYBE 1% better, and it wasn't as quiet as it was before.
This transformer hype has got to go.
An amp sounds good or it doesn't.

I do appreciate your energy. First off, I am an Egnater fan and owener. Just a simple question and a simple responce from Jeff (thanks again). We all have different applications for our gear, and in very tight studio quarters with many amps and FX in close proximity, I find the toroid amps a bit to noisy (espacially in a singel coil application). Yes the amps you guys mentioned all sound great, and from the clips, so does the Renegade. I utilize my other Egnater products (fully loaded M4) for most studio work only along with my Mesa, Marshall, and Bogner products. I would like to add an Egnater (non-toroid) combo to my live set up. Based on what I have heard about the Renegade I am very interested in playing and probably purchasing one. On the other hand I could just buy a MOD 50 and use my modules. I purchased a Tourmaster and it sounded great but it just did not get along with some of my other gear (noise). Jeff had offered to provide an mu metal containment box that would help to shield the toroid and reduce "some" of the noise caused by EMI. Understanding the Jeff and crew are extremely busy and I'm certain he will have time soon. Last and most importantly I do this for the relaxation and challange of playing and really enjoy discusssing gear with other players. Thanks for all of your input and opinion.

Sorry, I went crazy.
Just to add, in my experience, I get tons of proximity noise out of all of my transformers regardless of whether they're toroid or not
I guess I just need to stand in the corner while I play

Thanks Slinger! But, Far from that my friend. Andy Wood and others have the serious chops.
Unfortunately I sold the last remaining Toroidal tranny amp I had a while ago--MICA TOL 100.
I bought the MOD 50 though so not a step down. I do miss that head though.JCC,
I understand what your concerns are here. If you wait and get the Renegade, I think you will be happy. If you end up getting a MOD 50 you will be happy. You can't lose brother!
